kimarj, I call that Calico plant but forgotten the botanical name. You have to really keep her cut back in order for her to branch and show wonderful foliage. I cut mine back almost to the soil line every spring and she grows to over 5 feet before the summer is over. She loves morning sun. (Caricature plant is what she is called)

I knew it had another name! It is a stick with a few leaves..if it makes it til spring I will cut it back : ) Thanks for the tip! Yours is beautiful : )

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I really wanted you to see that she can be bushy and beautiful..............the tips also root very easily, so root them and add to the pot next summer. They will root in less than two weeks when they have some warmth and humidity.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

I just love plants that root easy! : )

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Propagation is my favorite part of growing and caricature plants rank easiest to propagate.............

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

So you must know some good stuff???

Red Oak, TX

Joeswife, you can find the Philo. Pink princess at Logee's. If you do not mind waiting, I can try to root a cutting for you.

gessiegail, thanks. I am worried about the water bill this month, no rain here.
I appreciate the tip on rooting the caricature plant cuttings. I like those plants

Anyone growing Yvonne's Red Salvia? Mine is short. I was wondering if it will get taller later this summer? It is blooming already.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I would like a cutting of rangoon, I lost mine, but I am good at turning sticks into plants...this was a stick in the basement nursery all winter

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

I can't get my rangoon creeper to bloom; I keep telling RJ I'm going to take a machete to it if it doesn't bloom. It is good sized this year, but no blooms. Grrrrrr

Sunshine I love your Rasberry Moon; that is so purty!!!!!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Patty, by all means cut it back some, that's how I get mine to bloom.
Mine was close to dead when I carried it out of the g house. Warm rains
made it lovely and I had already cut it back hard when I didn't have that much of it left to cut on. But it worked. I didn't even bother to feed it. Still got my blooms.

Becky, it is raining today (thank goodness), so I will take picture of the red tomorrow.

Dallas, TX

phughes.
Try feeding your rangoon creeper Miracle-gro bloom booster. It works on mine. Jerry

my mother dig a smal trench around her plants and sprinkle a little Miracle Grow, then cover back up with some dirt. All her plants bloom beautifully.

What are those heart shaped leaves to the left of this picture http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6782810
I had some hanging out of an old pot and I was thinking they are weeds, so I threw them out.

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

Debra, my Stargazer are in bloom too. I only have one stem though. Will they multiply?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

yes maam.. they will multiply, and let them go to seed and plant those, they have seed pods like other lillys do..
that heart shaped leaf is a giant woodland violet, I have them every where, I cut the leaves up in salads, they are first to bloom every spring, I use them for root cooling on other things, I catch the seed pods when I can before they pop open like an impatien and throw seeds out a zillion at a time with a loud snap.
I have 4 kinds, I am looking for yellow ones now..
Today before the swim party, I got to do some cutting for seeds, and here is a few I have bagged up.. there are two other colours of Monarda, not shown here.. I am getting ready to dry and store seeds for when someone wants some..

This is the first time ever for me to grow the castor bean, the datura purple metel, and the spiral ginger.. the canna was an accident, I forgot it was in this pot, but they all seem happy here..

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Chalis Vine is happier since I cut back the honey suckle and trellis roses, too bad I had to strip those brugs, *sniff* spidermites.. never heard of them, never had them, and I won't let them come back either.. there is also some datura purple there, as well as some pink petuinias, crinium, bright eyes phlox, I. Obscura, and a plethera of other things..
