oh James! I love that one.. is it benarys zinnia?

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

O am not sure but if you want some its seeds let me know.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

Who loves neoregelias? Of all the bromeliads, I find neos the easiest to care for. HD has some beauties right now so I took my garden club BOGO coupon. The neos were $13-14, so I got two beauties for $7.50 ea. I think that is a deal.

Have you signed up for the Home Depot Gardening Club? If not, please do so asap. Good deals to be had. Even if the clerk doesn't know how to process the coupons, lol.

DH picked this one. You know, the old trick of "engaging" him and making him a partner in crime so that he doesn't complain about me getting plants which I don't know where I'm gonna plant.

I LOVE those, do they have to stay inside in Kansas winter? do you water them alot or a litle? I killed an agave aloe when I out it outside and it rained so much.. noew my daughter has brought me some things sorta like those, but not as purty, and I hope to heck I don't become a Plant Killer.
James, I have a whole flower bed of them, I will show u when I get home. See you later,
tell Rita that picture was supposed to be the gophrema and the pictures are posted on my thread in the morning glory forum. Thise seeds took off really really well and look good with the snow queen salvia and the benary white zinnias. ACK! I have to get out of here! I am still at work..

hiya joeswife. You don't water them much. In fact, it is recommended that you just add water to the cup in the center of the plant. You can barely see the water in the center of my plants. If they start curling, then it's time to water more but they are very forgiving. I would think they need to go indoors during KS winters.

People in my area grow them inground but the only one I planted inground died. So, I keep them potted. They sure had some beauts at the Depot.

curcuma gracillima Candy Cane. Mine is inground, part sun. It stays short and not nearly as vigorous as other gingers. I got this one from Buried Treasures some years ago. I have rated it neutral because of its slow poke ways but the flower is undeniably beautiful.

Musa Black Thai. Its claim to fame is the black stem, which gets darker as plant matures. In my garden, one of the lower maintenance nanas.

Hello stranger, Vossner. I might have to run straight to a Home Depot soon.

What a buy for 2.50, Kim.......

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Wish i had room for more! lol. Also wish my HD had nice plants like Vossner's!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Home Depot runs second always to Lowe's here in south Texas so I forget to even stop by Home Depot.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Pretty much the same here!

Red Oak, TX

Sunshinesw, thank you. I love your Caladium Rasberry Moon.

Kimarj, a picture for you. Look at what is growing up the steel bar, it is about 3ft. and looking good.

LiliMerci, I would like to see your Yvonne Red Salvia as well, I got some seeds from Podster last year, but they did not come back this spring. I am having a bad year with my perennial flowers. This Sweet Hibiscus usually re-seed or sometimes come back from the roots, this year I have one mesely plant.

Joeswife, is it best to get cuttings from the old or the new wood on the Rangoon Creeper? I forgot to mention how big your Canna Australia has grown. I love the deep burgandy color of their leaves.

Texasbigleaf, is that the Rangoon Creeper plant that you bought in Houston? It certainly has grown.

phughes, maybe giving your RC a good haircut like patoote suggested would do the trick, but not with a machete. I trimmed mine before I brought it out this spring,( advise from Rj ) and boy did it ever bloom. ( or buy a new one) lol . I would hate for you to miss out on the pleasures of this great plant.

pensacolagarden, I am the only plant lover in my family,so whenever I am excited about a plant or a first bloom, I have no one to share my excitement with. That is why I am glad that I found DG.
Thanks for sharing your lovely flower with us.

vossner, I went to HD this morning, and they did not have anything nice. I feel like driving to Richmond to get a few of those Bromeliads. I love the N. Monet
Those are very enjoyable pictures, My dwarf Signapore pink is not blooming yet.

*Sigh* I love the crinum... it's so beautiful...

Thats what a crinium looks like? WOW~! Don gave me two.. I can't wait now.. my big fat plummie sticks are in the bubble tub, except for two of them, I put one in some soil by a brug, and onein the bean patch close to the patio .. we will see which one roots first..
When I first came to DG it was to look up a plant called peach versi.. I had ordered one because I liked the picture on ebay.. kept a running love story of it last summer here, and was told it wasn't a peach versi.. well, what ever it was, I still have it, only in three parts.. along with about 13 others LOL ( named ones?) anyway, no one in my family really gets excited like I do when something opens...and here is the pciture I wanted you to see Rita, you sent me these seeds.. gomphrena? LOL ..

Rita, I always give seedpicker_TX a hard time about their Lowes/HD carrying better plant inventory in Dallas than in Houston (even though most of those plants are grown in houston or S. texas).

However, it may be that Dallas is a better market for perennials so stuff grown here goes to Dallas, while Houston is a better market for tropicals and we get the better stuff. Would make sense.

and I join the rest that say Lowe's is more gardening friendly than HD but do sign up for the HD garden club. We've already used 3 of the coupons I have received in the mail. They are not gardening exclusive, hubby got some paint and other "man stuff" the other day.

Hullo Gail. My streps are doing so well, I'm scared b/c I'm doing nothing and they still thrive. Did you all know that I got a plant named Nerys? Gail helped me find a seller, it is a streptocarpus which is related to African Violets.

Rita, nice pic of broms. Are yours potted or inground? How moist? How much sun?

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

I trimmed a little off of the rangoon and I gave it some bloombooster. Keep your fingers crossed!!!! Machete is still on hand.

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

I've heard the Rangoon does not too well from stem cutting. The best way is to dig up the suckers.

Trained to be a MG tree.

Thumbnail by Sunshinesw
Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

That is beautiful. How did you train it into a tree? I like that much better than the wild bush I have two of right now.

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Phughes, I just trim some of the branches away from main stem. And shape the tree to the way I like it. I just love my MG tree.

Red Oak, TX

Kimarj, I missed your deal of the day Hibiscus plant yesterday. What a lovely color, at that price you could afford to plant you a hedge. lol
Check out the ends of the leaves on this Croton, they are spoon shaped

Joeswife, could you please save me some gomphrena seeds, mine did not come back this spring.
That is a very nice flower bed, I love the white zinnias.

Thumbnail by prita

vossner, I have to agree with you, Houston is a much better market for tropicals.
I have most of my Bromeliads in pots and hanging baskets, where they get morning sun. I would plant the pricey ones in potting soil for orchids

Thumbnail by prita
Red Oak, TX

Sunshinesw, that is a great idea, trimming the morning glory bush into a tree form. I will have to wait until mine get a bit older.
Harry Potter is a beauty, are those leaves variegated?.
