Garden Photos of '09 ... #28

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Now that sucks!! I bought 2 from Wayside, was leery but plunged in anyways. Both came bare root and very sturdy looking. Planted them and the white("Fragrant Wave') sprouted instantly. The dark one 'Burgundy Iceberg' didn't do a thing for almost 3 weeks.... now with all this rain they have both almost caught up to last years newbies.
I doubt it will be as dark as the picture, they never are but it lived so, I feel very lucky!!

Pixie what a gorgeous color on that one!!!

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

I must have lucked out with J&P - I ordered a tad late so they are just leafing out now. But I was happy with the plants they sent... so far anyway.

love that color Pixie.. hope the photo is right!!

the advice Kassia gave me... check where the grafts are... make sure they are covered (mine were too high and that's why they didn't make it .. in my opinion).. and dig a $500.00 hole for a $25.00 plant

hope yours do better than mine Meredith

Love the larve Willi

Thanks one wish I am worried some of my new roses are too deep. I did some of them deeper than others. The grafted ones are deeper than the own roots. I am already worrying about them not making it through winter and it's only June. lol

thx celeste - they are staked with about three rows of green garden wire as they grew this spring - although they grew a few ft bigger than the stakes

joanne i just looked at mr watson on mhn's web site a nice puckered yellow one and it can take some sun - right where roseann is and by the red majestic hlws - we could have a color match

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Those Delphs do look great .... very nice setting

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

thx willie - you will be happy to know grown from seed

I grew some that Willie gave me. They are in the ground and growing but seems they have a long way to go. Slugs cut threw 2 of them but they have an inner leaf sprouting so they will be ok.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

well meredith i have a long list of want to haves that i worked on last winter - this was on the list - they have another there that may need to be relocated as well:) Actually they have some real nice ukigumo's or floating cloud maples their, i already have one and almost came home with the second.

they also have the landscape container soil from Maine - i think that is fine for jm's

Snowpeak Iris's are doing a coop with DG if yout interested. The only fall back is that there are 200 varieties being offered but only 5 of each variety is available. There is a tenative list available and it will be first come first serve when it opens. Some people where complaining about the time zone as they stayed up to 1am for the last one. LOL

"THE IRIS WILL BE ON SALE FOR 2.65 EACH. you can order from snowpeak's sale list as well as their online site. iris not on the list will sell for the price listed on the online site.

Minimum Order is 25.00 not including shipping

Shipping Charges are the same as listed on their site. if you live east of the mississippi the cost is 9.00 plus 65 cents per rhizome. if you live west of the mississippi the cost is 8.00 plus 50 cents per rhizome"

There are lots more rules to read if you participate, heres the thread, good luck!

Nice photos, folks---my delphs are pathetic---they just don't grow well for me. Meredith---after the ground freezes, pile manure onto the base of your roses--it keeps the ground from heaving, & feeds the plants. Jen, that lily is so pretty.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I think that lily crossed with another one because I totally don't remember it from last year.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

Wow that is cool! I love surprises in the garden. I have some seedlings from my lilies I've been growing, can't wait to see what they look like.

Long Branch, NJ(Zone 7a)

Did I slept through summer? Why are my tiny Asters blooming?
Never have them before. I decided to order some different varieties to add to my fall flowering plants.
This one in particular is Aster Woods Pink. They were so tiny when I got them few weeks ago but now almost doubled in size and they were pinched. It's counterpart, the blue ones are not flowering but getting bushier.

Is it normal for Fall Asters to flower this time of year? I'm afraid they're going to stop flowering by the time they're suppose to flower.

Echinacea Coconut Lime.

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

That coconut lime is great! I don't know what's up with your asters... maybe they aren't what they are supposed to be? Although I have had that happen with hardy mums and they still bloomed in fall.
Wanted to share another pic.
