This is another vine I was growing with my students at school. Brought this one home and it too bloomed!
This is Jishi with a double bloom!
Becky's MGs Part 6
the leaves are different from the others and i know it is going to be cool thxs again
Mortez - My bet is that you got very lucky and got a true Willow MG vine! It certainly looks like it! Congrats! It should have a blue bloom with white throat!
Geez! I don't get it ... I have grown many of the Blue Asago Willow (BAW) seeds and have yet to get a true Willow vine. And how many here have gotten a true Willow from the seeds I shared with you! That's amazing! You have to have a regular leafed BAW to cross-pollinate it with the willow bloom to get seeds. Actually, the willow has pollen, but no stamen. So you have to use the pollen from the willow bloom and use it to pollinate it with the regular leafed BAW bloom.
Darren - I like the name you came up with! Cool! Your stargazer is a beaut!!! WOW!!!
so you are saying i need another one fo these to get true seeds from this plant? i hope not because this is the only one i got out of the seeds you sent lol please tell me how to get seeds that will come true from this and i will send you some thxs again for sharing
mortez - What did I send you? Did I send you a mix bag of seeds or did I send you a bag of BAW? If I sent you a bag of BAW, then if you have any left, start another one or two NOW! If not, dmail me and I will send you more seeds of BAW!
it was mixed of american and japanese morning glories seeds
moretz - Dmail me your mailing information. I'll send you some more BAW seeds! :-)
Oh yeah ... I forgot to tell you that the bloom will be totally different in shape as well! Do post photos!!!! You're gonna love it!

and your Shiori pirple X Gray Lady are not the same ?

Dany - You are very observant! You are quite correct. Except, it appears that it is once again a cross with something else. It is showing blooms from it's parent Shibori purple x Gray Lady, but many of the blooms look different too. So that is why I believe it is a new cross (NOID). Further grow-out of the seeds from my current vine will either go back to it's Mother's parentage traits or continue to evolve into something else. You have a good eye and memory!! :-) :-)

Hi! I haven't been on here for a while.
I am growing a Hanahubuki for the first time this year and the leaves are huge! Is that normal? I can not wait to see what the flowers are going to be like!
edited to add: oh, no. I looked up hanahubuki and it has variegated leaves so these MG are not it. It's one of those japanese one but since I didn't label them, I don't know which one it is. :( I will post photo when they bloom, may be you can help me.

Nicole - Post away when you get blooms and I am sure someone here on the forum will be able to ID it for you! Always fun to have a mystery vine! :-) Leaf size is often determined by the cultivar and the growing conditions of the vine. Good, rich, fertile soil will produce some large leaf vines with nice size blooms!
becky
i LOVE the blue/white mg that is AWESOME!!!!!!!!! it is hard to find true blue flowers but that is true blue,i hope you can get some seeds of them,i would love to trade with you lol just AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cant get over that color please kkep the pics coming i LOVE them all!!!!!!!!!!!!
Melisa - Which blue and white bloom are you refering to? Can you post a link to the photo? If I have seeds, maybe I can slip in a few seeds before I mail out the BAW seeds to you. ;-)
Moretz well done with the BAW i've grown quite a few out and not got a willow yet... but still trying.... :-)
Becky your blooms are as gorgeous as ever... i like this gourd vine a lot :-) http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=6685831
the ones on top of this post lol i think you said you dont have any seeds of it yet thxs
Melisa - I have seeds for this one: Jishi http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6685697
And I have seeds from the Mother vine of this one: (Shibori Purple x Gray Lady) http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6685724
Colin - Melisa only got ONE (1) BAW seed from me. When I sent out mixed packets of MG seeds, I put only one of different cultivars in each packet. I think she got 10-15 seeds all different in the ziplock packet! Now what are the odds that out of all the seeds I have for BAW that Melisa got 1 of the willow gene seeds?!!! HA! She should play the lotto!!!!
I agree - those gourd blooms are pretty interesting looking! :-)

becky if it isent too late i would love some of both please thxs so much
yes it does sound like i need to do the lotery lol thxs
Melisa - I sent you some extra seeds packets along with the BAW seeds today! Enjoy!
Thank you, Jackie! I look forward to seeing your blooms this season! Sounds like you are growing some lovely ones yourself! :-)
I don't have a whole lotta time in the mornings on the weekdays to get photos. Mainly I am out there hurriedly hand-pollinating all the blooms. But I did manage to snap a couple photos.
This shows the NOID blooms today. I was totally stoked when I saw the colors! The purple color is why I do believe it is a secondary cross from my grow-out last year. The Mother vine blooms did NOT have this much purple color. It was mostly blue and white with a pink throat blooms on the Mother vine. And luckily, it does seem to be producing pollen! Yipee!

This is what happens if the soil that a vine is growing in ... is depleted of nutrients. I did not amend the bed around the picket fence this year, so scrawny leaves and vines is the result. Fortunately, the blooms are still large and beautiful and for the most part able to be pollinated. But how sad, huh? Compare these to the ones I grew in amended soil along the tall privacy fence and it is a night and day difference. These vines still WOW me with their strength and determination to survive. And the blooms never cease to delight me!
This Rose Silk vine really was showing off her stuff today!
oh wow.. I am so dizzy from so much beauty here.. that noid is awsome, and the gourd blooms and even the Brug bloom are so pretty, I especially like your knock out roses, have always wanted to try those, but havn't. I like the way you garden alot and walking thru it with you is such a joy.. thanks so much! Oh, I have a pack of BAw from you.. guess I better plant some of those too!
Thanks, Debra!
The Knock-out Roses I got in a co-op last year. They were teeny starts which I really didn't think would make it because they were so small. But they went wild in the pots which I filled with compost, good potting soil, and peat! I have pruned them back twice over the year that I've had them. I kid you not ... they were maybe 4" tall when I got them and tiny! Some of the co-ops I've done have been low, low prices, but the plants I got were so small I couldn't believe it. The clematis co-op had teeny, tiny vine starts too. They call them "liners"! HA! I guess they barely line/fill a tiny plastic pot. But both co-ops were such a surprise as the plants were very healthy and fast growing! I think I just got lucky! But then again, I joined a huge Mum co-op too last year and got itty bitty plants too and they are all over my yard (I got a bunch extra) and planted them everywhere! They got big fast and bloom year round for me! So I guess I either picked the right co-ops or did the right thing when transplanting them in my yard! LOL!
I got two blooms on the NOID vine today. The purple coloring on these blooms is really pretty! I like Darren's name for them ... swirlberry! :-) Maybe I should call this vine "Shibori Swirlberry". What do y'all think?
