Stop and visit, talk all you want #32

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

She did post a pic of it. Somewhere anyways. lol. I remember it.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh it's hotter than hot, 95 degrees with a heat index to 108! A couple of girls I work with spent the weekend together and one has a condo on Lake Hamilton, they said it was perfect out on the lake in the boat. They both got sunburned though.

I remember that blue 'Stang! Love it!

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

93 here with heat index of 110. Excessive heat warnings out too.

Today was my last day working outside. I won't miss the heat but I will miss being outside playing with the plants!!

(Zone 7a)

Y'all can come to my house and play!

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

LOL. I still have a ton of plants to plant here. I've got New Zealand Hair Sedge 'Bronze', switchgrass, impatiens, pentas, a false sunflower, coreoptis, and a few other perennials, rudebekcia, annual sage, and I forget what else that needs to go in pots or the ground.

(Zone 7a)

Those all sound pretty neat! I would love to have pentas and and the sedge. I have Carex 'Ice Dance'. Green with a white stripe.

Well, girls, I will check in in the morning and then I'm off to Oregon. I'll take lots of pics. I miss you all already!!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Oregon Here We Come!! Oh, did I forget to tell you that I'm going with you?

Wow! Those are some plants! Dave got the weedeader out and took out several of my plants with it. My only blue hosta, a mint (I think that will come back) and some other miscellaneous what-not. He actually took the weedeater between the plants, what a moron!!

(Zone 7a)

Hop in!!!!! LOL There's a back seat and a large trunk!

Arrrrrrrrgh!!! I so hate when people do that. The only plants I let anyone do that with is my roses. And then only ME!!!

We're leaving this afternoon and the desert driving will be done tonight. Woo hoo! They have a computer but I don't know if I'll get on or not. We have lots to do.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

It's just Dave, not paying attention and rushing through the whole thing. If he wouldn't go between the plants we wouldn't have this problem LOL

Have a great time!!!

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Have fun!!!!

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Crissy, your hosta should come back. A lot of times in the severe heat, like this we're all having, the leaves burn. The best thing is to cut them off. And as pep can probably tell you, if you get a hosta late in the season and it looks dead but it's very much alive, you merely cut the tops off to energize the roots to grow for you. Didn't know I knew about things other than my indigenous plants, did you? And why oh why is anyone weedeating in between plants? Isn't there mulch? Rock? Compost? Anything? eeekkk....

The temp was rising up and up today, so I quit looking when it was 94.6º. I have no idea what the heat index temp was. It's not bad out right now, but it is really windy. I'm not sure if it's going to rain or not. I had heard there was rain in IA, but I thought it was supposed to die out and not hit us.

I am just falling apart, aren't I?!! I had to take a Vicodin and as usual, it's making my brain on the foggy side so I don't know if I said that or not. I couldn't take the pain in my hands anymore. I slept almost the whole night last night. I woke up it was 6 something. I was shocked, but relieved. I see our family doctor tomorrow afternoon, chiropractor in the morning. I had an appointment with the Neurosurgeon for Fri, but of course they called and canceled. And of course next Fri. is a holiday...I see him in a month. It has to be a Fri. because I'm not driving that far just yet. I only hope that whatever kind of doctor I need for my hands, I'm able to get in to see quickly and s/he can do the surgery equally as quickly. I saw a family friend yesterday at the grocery store and he was telling me they don't do it like they did my dads anymore and it's an inpatient surgery. Sounds good. Can they do both hands at once? I'll come back up here, since I just remembered something else. Do any of you sleep on one of those memory foam pillows? The contoured kind? Be it a Temperpedic or a cheap one like I have from Target. When I was at the chiropractor on Mon., she asked me what kind of pillow I sleep on and she wasn't understanding my explanation. She wants me to bring mine in. Which is fine, but I also told her I really needed a new one. I know they break down after awhile and I've had it over 5 years. She said it would be great if I could buy one of theirs. I was laughing when I said, but don't yours cost 50 bucks or something? She didn't know. So when I was done with my therapies, I asked at the front desk to see the pillow and was SHOCKED to see a price of $100!!! Who would pay that? And why? I bought a new one at Target today for $34.98. Sounds like a good price to me. Sort of high, but a whole lot better than 100 bucks.

Did I hear that right? Did Ed McMahon die? Aw, I just looked. Yes, he did. Well, that's too bad. I have WGN on because I watching the Cubs. Anyone? Anyone? Score was 4-3 Cubs, bottom of the 9th, Detroit up to bat and what does the Cubs closer do? The new closer of course. They had to get rid of our other one. You know, the one who's spent his whole career with the Cubs. Yea, him. So this new guy throws a pitch and but of course the guy gets a home run and of course there's also someone already on base! Final...4-5 Detroit Tigers. Cubs are such losers this year!! They get rid of DeRosa, they get rid of Marquis, they get rid of Wood...unbelievable. They wonder why they're losing. Seriously it's at the point that it's not even worth it to watch because you know how it's going to end.

Well, this old lady is finding her chair to watch the weather that's going to come up here pretty soon.

Night all....♥

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Morning girls. Another night that I woke up in pain. Why isn't the Vicodin working? Oh such pain! I woke up about 4:35 and laying down brings on numbness, which makes the fingers hurt more and the swelling feel 10 x's worse, so I got up. I give up. Good thing is I see the MD today.

I saw on the weather last night, they didn't have our temp. But in a town 30 miles west, it got up to 99 yesterday. It was hot that's for sure. And people wonder why I like snow?☺

I think I'll do a search on the procedure for carpel tunnel, so be back on here later on...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Terry the chiropractor pillows are exactly the same thing, and it bothers me that she didn't know what you were talking about. I'm wondering if she did but was playing dumb so you would buy one of theirs. I can't use the memory foam, it kills my back, neck, and everything else attached to them.

LOL I like snow as long as I don't have to shovel it :)

Have you been diagnosed with Carpel? I'm glad you see your dr today.

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Crissy, her pillow isn't the same as mine. Hers doesn't have one end low and the other high, with a dip in the middle. You know what I mean? Hers are more flat. She used to have pillows that were hillier than mine is, the Temperpedic ones. But she told me the last bunch they had broke down on people after 6 months, so they switched brands. I just can't remember which brand hers is now. Not to defend her, just to clarify, she didn't understand those humps they have at each end and how shallow it is in the middle. If it's not in my hand, I'm not sure how she expected me to know exactly! Jeez. It's 6.5" high at one end and 3.75" at the other, with 2" in the middle. Ya know? We have a Select Comfort bed and it has the memory foam in it. I like it. It helps my back.

Snow's not bad, even if you have to shovel it. That's why man made snow blowers!

Yes, my Neurologist said I had carpal tunnel. I asked the Neurosurgeon who did my cervical surgery and of course he wouldn't commit or comment. He's weird. My dr thinks that maybe the swelling and pain in my hands is due to all the fluid I'm retaining. I've been saying I need a water pill for a long time, but I know they don't like to give them out. He gave me a script for Lasix. It was after 2 when I got them, so I wasn't taking one then. I'll wait till tomorrow. The pain is pretty bad today. I'm not sure if that's because I was outside, going in and out of various places or what. But my feet and ankles and my hands are killing me. Vicodin is barely cutting it. My doctor is also running a lot of tests, kidney, liver, the thyroid...all duplicates of what was done in...I can't remember what month. Late winter. And also what the Neurosurgeon ran.

My hands are hurting pretty bad, so I'm getting off. Plus my ankles and feet really bad when down.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I know exactly what pillows you're talking about. Our mattress is one of those that has single spongy things in it, so when one person gets in bed it doesn't move the other side, it's alright but not the most comfortable I've had.
Have you tried taking an anti-inflammatory medicine? Sounds like you need some Celebrex, that gets rid of the inflammation which gets rid of the swelling and pain. I live on Ibuprofen, I rarely take any pain killer, mostly anti-inflammatories.

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Anti-inflammatories do nothing. They never have. Advil gel-caps do more. I'm trying to (remember to) take those in the day and Vicodin at night. I had to sleep last night in the recliner. My hands were hurting so bad. It's just weird how they go numb when I'm laying down. Sit up and the feeling comes back. I took the water pill today and I haven't gone to the bathroom anymore than normal. Is your bed a Select Comfort? If it is and it's larger than a double, you can remove the spongy thing on your side. That's what I like so much about this bed. John sets his air level on one setting and I set mine on another. If I didn't want the memory foam in my side, I could unzip the pillow top and remove it from that side only.

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Farah Fawcett and Michael Jackson both died today. :~( Farrah of her cancer and Michael of cardiac arrest.

Terry, I used to use one of those types of pillows but I quit using them because I was sleeping on the edge of them so the pillow wouldn't choke me. Any time I have anything laying against my neck it sometimes makes it hard to swallow. Really weird but I'm used to it now. lol. I just get a cheap extra firm or firm pillow and use it for 6 months or however long it takes to get too flat for me.

Lots of high heat here too. Been in high 90s all week with heat index in the low to mid 100s. Today I didn't have to work in it. Greenhouse is officially down and done and while there are a few plants left my floral boss is easily able to keep them watered. I will be back outside about the end of August though to take care of all the mums that will be coming in. That's just around the corner!! Whoo hoo!!

Oh and terry was right about the hostas. lol. I dug up several mini hostas that were nothing but roots basically and put them in pots and they are putting on leaves already. Yours may wait til fall or next year to do that so just leave them there and let them try to come back.

Here's one of my butterfly weeds blooming.

Thumbnail by pepper23
Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Isn't that horrible about Michael and Farrah? I think Farrah is the most gorgeous woman ever and Michael, well, we're the same age, so it feels like I grew up with him. Did you see the biography with Farrah? I saw it on Oxygen about a month ago.

Sleeping on the edge on the pillow? My neck is on the lowest bump with my head resting in the middle.

I was watching the weather channel last night. They were going on and on about the temps at that time of the night (it was shortly after 11pm). Only they must think it's only the south that gets that sort of heat? It was 83º here and it was 83º in St. Louis and 81º in Kansas City. No wonder nobody believes it gets hot here! Nobody talks about it. Heat inducies are high here too. The temp today is expected to be a mere 93º, which is a lot lower than it's been all week.

My butterfly weed hasn't opened up yet. It has buds, it's had buds, but they're yet to open. I've got buds on my joepyeweed! That shouldn't be about to bloom now. If I only had a camera had that actually worked, I could take pictures too. The Catalpa is done and I forgot to ask to borrow my dads when it was blooming.

I hear John stirring upstairs, so I better go....tootles!

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

We had Joe Pye Weed at work with the purple foilage. I really wish I had bought one now cause the one I planted last year didn't come back up. I'm waiting for my ironweed and liatris to put out buds also. I know I still have the iron weed cause the tag is still there but I'm not sure the other plant is liatris. Won't know til it blooms for me. lol

Here was my rain yesterday morning. Took the pic on the way to work.

Thumbnail by pepper23
Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

It's a King size bed and the things inside it don't move. I forgot what it's called, when I change the sheets this weekend I'll look at the tag.

I'm not in a good mood today, PMSing and had a rough morning with contact issues and Dave keeping me awake all night and all. I was shocked to hear about Michael Jackson passing, who would've thought??

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

I have had joepyeweed every house we've lived in and never have I seen it go everywhere! Everywhere I look it's sticking up in there! I don't think it's a crowding out type plant, like a cupplant is. I have some in my prairie I seriously need to remove. Once you see the liatris, you never forget it. It's unmistakable. I just can't believe all that I planted in there are gone. And milkweed? When everybody talks about how it's goes everywhere? Mine has vanished! How can that be?

I was standing out there today, waiting for a delivery truck. As with every appliance it's appearing in this house, our washer and dryer decided to bit the dust also. Now those are well over 10 yrs old, but still. Maytag Neptune's. I really loved them. They were that stain brain kind with the digital read-out. It had a section called favorites and you set up how you wanted things washed/dryed, how long, what kind of water/heat, all sorts of things. Came to washing or drying, it didn't take much once those were set. I was surprised I could get these delivered today though. We went yesterday to, not a big box store, but a family owned store that has locations in 3 towns. One is over in Peru, the town I talk about a lot. Anyway, we picked out, with the help of a salesman of course, what we wanted, and when he asked when I'd like delivery, I answered with my usual, oh tomorrow would be fine. I was so surprised when he said, you want it, you got it! Well alrighty then! Only thing is that the dinger can't be set as a remind chime. Which on the neptune meant it would chime every 15 min. or so forever. Or until you opened the door. Annoying it could be, but you never forgot you had something in the washer or the dryer.

This is getting weird. Now the Oxi-Clean guy dies? Ed McMahon, David Carradine, Farrah, Michael and now Billy Mays. Anybody else? For Mr. Mays, personally I found him annoying. A pushy pushy salesman. I don't care much for pushy sales people. But jeepers, that's why I have TiVo, so I can fast forward thru his commercials☺ Any commercials really!!☺☺

Sorry you're feeling bad Crissy! Any better now? Sorry the foams things don't move. Why was Dave keeping you awake all night? You make me think and then I feel guilty because I know I have definitely kept John up at night! In fact, his back is messed up now because he slept on the couch the first night I had to sleep in the recliner down here. I told him to go upstairs, but he was insistent. Then when I did get up to go to the bathroom, he didn't even hear me! I thought I'd have to take him to the ER today, but he sat with heat on it off and on this morning and afternoon, said it felt better and off to work he went. I don' know how he'll be tomorrow though.

I need to go to bed. I actually slept last night. I had to get up a couple times to go to the bathroom, but I never even needed another pain pill. I didn't do the exercises from the chiropractor I'm supposed to do and I didn't wear the wrist bands I'm supposed to. Wonder if they correlate?

KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Terry, do you want some liatris seeds? I have a ton of it.

I found Billy Mays annoying too. When he came on we hit mute. He was just too loud and annoying. Seemed like a nice guy but still annoying. lol

I got my new camera today. A Nikon Coolpix. I'm loving it already!! My dad was a bit jealous over my zoom but when he heard how much mine cost compared to his he decided he liked his better. LOL. I will post the pics I took today when I get the software downloaded.

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Sure, what the heck! I've never had any luck with seed, but if you're offering, I'll take some. I know they're supposed to be long-lived, but they never seem to be that way for me. I couldn't find the kind I wanted in TN and I did have them at our other house up here, but they didn't live for very long. I didn't pay a lot for any one plant, but when you start adding them up, the money starts adding up too.

On the news last night, they had what they said was probably his last interview. They had a camera crew at the airport when the news came out about the landing gear. I hardly doubt they were there for him, but he happened to be on that plan, so the reporter grabbed him. He spoke. I mean actually speak. Not that loud booming annoying voice, but an actual normal voice.

You have jogged my memory!! Remember I have a Nikon Coolpix and then something happened to my computer and I lost all the software that came with the camera, but I couldn't find the disks with the software? So the camera was basically no good to me..unless I had them developed, then I could scan them onto here. Or I could always have Wally World make a CD I suppose. My new computer has the slots in it for the memory cards, so I don't need the software any more. Hmmm......where oh where did I put that camera?? I believe it's upstairs in a drawer, in the hallway dresser.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Yay for new cameras! I almost got a Coolpix but liked the Kodak's options better.

LOL Terry you are so funny. I still haven't looked to see what brand mattress I have. We need a cheapo deepo queen mattress for our spare bed.

What's scary is their dying young. I'm not liking that too much.

Dave's just loud, he's almost deaf in one ear so he can't hear exactly how loud he is. Men just drive me nuts!

Do you like your new washer/dryer?

I'm just in a bad mood. It's Dave's family reunion week, it's actually on the 4th but Dave's uncle Roy is flying in tomorrow and Dave's little brother is coming too but I don't know how he's going to get here or get around, he hates Roy and has no money and no car and lives in CA. I don't want to go this year, I want to stay in the air conditioning and enjoy fireworks. Where the reunion is on Lake Oauchita they don't allow fireworks. Just not in the mood for all the drama.

(Zone 7a)

Home, home, home!!!

I made it home this morning about 3am. Whew! I'm tired still. We slept until about 8am. Not very long considering we drove 800 miles in a day!!!

We had lots of fun and I will post pics after I go through them all.

LOVE YOU ALL!!!

Terry, I will send you the seeds I have. I saved a pack just for you. lol. I gave a bunch of my seeds to a friend to get rid of weeds on the road frontage (country) so we can see the driveway. Now I gotta find them again.

Gotta go!! Meeting brother for dinner!!

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Welcome back Celia! Love the pictures. It's very breathtaking there...wanna see some corn?? Gosh, it's pretty darn boring around here...I mean the drive and all. We talk about something being hilly around here and if you saw what we were talking about, you'd think we were nuts! This 'hills are alive....' LOL I think ours are more bumps!!

I love the shed in what I take is the back yard. Very pretty. I see so many things blooming and I noticed today while looking around in the really cold weather we're having, that I have things in the back yard blooming, but nothing in the front yard is blooming. Which means more things aren't there any longer. I had things that bloomed and bloomed and overlapped with other plants, and now it's like so many of my perennials have vanished. The weather is good, they're in the sun or shade or whatever they need, they get plenty of water up here...I don't know what's going on.

Oh! Anyone with those nasty Japanese beetles around? I never had them until last year. I wish they'd go away!

Crissy, if you want to take a drive up here, there's a commercial that's been playing for about a year. This store over in Peru is going out of business. I don't think you can be going out of business for that long though...there was a store here in town that the going out of business sale lasted too long, so they had to take the signs down for 6 months, then have the sale again. It could only last...I'm thinking 6 months. But anyway, he's got the double sided mattresses and all. If you have a red sock, by golly he'll sell something to you. His commercial are over the top and so annoying. I haven't had the w/d long enough to really tell. I know it's missing a lot of features I had on the Neptune, which I think is really odd seeing the age difference and all. For instance I had hand wash on the Neptune, but I don't have it on this one. I had a lot of heat settings, this one is confusing with it's settings. Extra low does nothing, low isn't much better, and medium seems too warm. Not that it is, it's just in my head because there's always been a delicate setting and this one doesn't have just the delicate. You can set it for delicate, but then you choose the heat setting. Odd, very odd. I like on the Neptune's, once you open the door, the power is on. These you have to hit the power button. The Neptune washer tub was high enough that if you needed to open the door while running, it didn't need to drain. With this one, it has to drain the water. Which makes me think it's taking at least a portion of the detergent with it. You know what else bugs me? That we bought these from this 3 store family owned business, yet I have to send in the warranty cards. They don't do any of that for you. That's weird to me and I don't get it. So far, I have of course, forgotten to filll them out and send in. I guess that's what they hope for? I don't know. I can't stand drama either and what's the use in having a family celebration over the 4th when the place won't even be doing any fireworks?? That's the oddest thing I've heard in a long time!!

And yes, they were all young, with maybe the exception of Ed. Not sure how old David was. But Farrah I know was 62 and Michael and Billy were both 50.

I'm sad. I saw Poodle/Maltese puppies for sale in the paper. Zoey doesn't play well with other dogs. In fact she acts like she's a Great Dane instead of some 5 1/2 lb shrimp and goes after them on the kill! She kills me. But I really really really want another dog like our first dog Cricket. I really wish I would have gotten another dog when she was younger. sigh

pep, remember my address??

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

They don't allow fireworks because it's too wooded and too much of a fire hazard. Most of CA doesn't allow fireworks anymore because of the dry grass that will catch on fire. It's sad but saves homes, so whatever.

That sucks about the washer. I think they all either stop or drain when you open the door now, I haven't seen one that doesn't and yes, it would take some detergent with it. I have a Whirlpool Duet front loader, Love It, but what I had before was about 15 years old with nothing special, so yay! If the stores turn in the warranty cards for the customer the store is responsible and they don't want that. If the consumer wants the warranty they'll turn them in, if not, they won't. I don't' know of any stores that turn in the warranty work for the customer anymore. Change of the times, too many people to sue someone for something stupid.

Roy brought his guitar and a huge stack of songs and poems, he sang, "Don't Call Me Darlin', Darlin' " and a bunch of others last night. Dave left for work an hour early, thought that was rude since it is his uncle and all.

Nice pics Celia! Man I am soooo jealous it's not even funny!

(Zone 7a)

Pepper, how was lunch with your brother?

Terry, I know exactly what you mean! LOL

Crissy, you and I should seriously get together once and go to the beach in OR. It's awesome!!!

Who likes baseball?

Thumbnail by kwanjin
Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

You have such short term memory! I LOVE baseball!! As long as it includes the Cubs anyway...lol Then again, they did trade Mark DeRosa to the Phillies and now they've traded him to St. Louis.

Crissy, this store does the warranty work or repair work, so why wouldn't they be responsible? It's stupid to me. If my 90 yr. old grandma bought a new washer and my mom was with her when it was bought, but not there when it was delivered, the card wouldn't get sent in because neither would know it was up to them. I specifically asked the guys who delivered it. I don't even know why I did, but I'm grateful that I did. The salesman should have told me to make sure I sent it in since they don't. As for stores that always do it for you? Windpower Electric here in town does. I've never sent in a single solitary warranty card before in my life. Now that I think about it, with the new fridge and stove from HD, we bought the extended warranty and they did it, not me.

Down in AR where we go, it doesn't matter how dry it is, because the fireworks are set off from a boat in the lake. So the thingys all land in the water, or on you in your boat☺Typically, they're not hot by the time they get all the way back down to the ground though. Same thing up here at various towns along the MS River or the IL River or the Rock River or or or or....see? Grew up with fireworks, so it's hard to imagine the 4th without them.

(Zone 7a)

Sorry, Terry. That was a rhetorical question. I love watching it if I'm at the game but I like watching people more than that.

Thumbnail by kwanjin
KC Metro area, MO(Zone 6a)

Found the seeds!! I had to dump the envie that I keep my seeds in. LOL. It was buried. And yep, I still have your addy. It's buried too but I'll find it.

Celia, I agree. The people are waaaay more interesting than the players! LOL

We won't have as many firework shows in the area this year as we normally do because of buget shortfalls. So alot of towns have cancelled this year. But my old job is still doing it and are expecting record breaking crowds because of the other towns not doing them.

Dinner with my brother was fun. They wanted a distraction because his GF's son goes in for surgery tomorrow to have a balloon put in his chest. He has a birthmark that covers about half of his chest and I think next month it is they will cut it off so it can't become cancerous. The balloon is to stretch the skin to make up for all the skin coming off. So we entertained the Wyatt and enjoyed some really good mexican food!

Bureau County, IL(Zone 5a)

Not at baseball! You have to watch the game! Now if you're at a mall, then yea, watching people is fun. Quite entertaining actually...lol

Hmm...I haven't heard of any town around here not having fireworks this year. They're all budgeted and paid for by another organization other than the town. Here for example, it's the Jaycees. I know some of the other towns do fundraisers and things like that to raise the money.

Looking thru the guide on TiVo, I see that show 'Pitchman' or men, whichever it is. I have that on. It's really weird to hear Billy Mays just talk like a normal person, instead of that big boom voice of his.

pepper, I didn't know a birthmark could turn cancerous? I don't doubt you, you'd know better than me, I just never heard of it before. How old is the child?
