These are the best patch of poppies this year. Sadly there location they call home is right in front of my side gate. I will leave them, but they do get in in my way if I need to use that gate.

Bea, your rose is phenomenal! As to the poppies, I'd be inclined to walk around, so as to not disturb them.

The daylilies are at their peak right now!

The red daylilies make such dramatic additions to the border garden... I have several. This particular plant was given to me three years ago by a friend who decided to take all of the blooming plants out of his garden and have a totally 'green' look with shrubs, hedges and ground cover (it's a spectacular garden that has been featured on several local garden tours and in a couple of magazines and books). It didn't bloom the first year and only had a few blooms last year - look what's happened this year!

Stella d'Oro, one of the many bold gold daylilies in my garden - I like the profuse, smaller blooms and the full season color. The pic is a little 'foggy' - our humidity was 85% yesterday when I took photos. I kept cleaning my lens between photos but must not have gotten it for this one.

I like having some blue in the border to balance all of the gold, red and yellow flowers I tend to plant. This stokesia looks pale in my photo, but when viewed in person, it's really quite bright blue.

"Prairie Satan" - another of the red daylilies in my border. This spider variety blooms nicely for several weeks.

This time of year is when we get most of our rain and the garden is bursting with blooms. Tons of cosmos and daisies, roses too. My favorite is the moss roses. I have 3 whiskey barrels full of them that reseed every year.

I love moss roses too! They remind me of my childhood. I plant them along the edge of the bed as an extra bit of color. Mine don't do much re-seeding, however. I get a few in the spaces between the stone path, but that's it.

Springfield, IL(Zone 5b)

Wow..lovely blooms!

Bea:
I love your froggie water garden pictures!

Leawood:
wonderful assorment of daylilies!

Cactuspatch..I will always think of my mother having a planter full of moss rose, or"rose-moss" as she called it, on the front porch of the house I grew up in..funny how flowers can make you so sentimental.

Everytime I see my hollyhocks, I think of being a child wandering through the stand of them out at my great Aunt Ruth's...it was always kind of thrilling, because they were usually humming with bees, which in my little mind WANTED to sting me, lol

We had a storm come through this past weekend and knock over several of the taller ones, and it reavealed these little gems that were hiding behind my Creme de Cassis

All lovely artemiss. Yes, I think I have certain plants because they remind me of my Grandmothers. They both had moss rose, lantanas, roses and daylilies so I feel I have to have them too. Actually my ditch lilies were given to me by my Grandma so they are even more special to me.
