(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

This brilliant yellow flowery bush was outstanding, so I grabbed a few seeds from it

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

The white Yarrow was everywhere in bloom, and I mean everywhere! It wasn't ready to be picked yet, but I know where to go now..

The kids were being cooky, very entertaining to me, and being so .. well.. they were so kind to let me wander around, barking out orders to bring me this or that from the car LOL .. they both found my hats, and donned them in fun..

Joanna, the aunt, Chevy the nephew to her and the grandson to me, we all just had a ball, us three

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

we went thru the country, and saw such beauty, in this boring land of OZ, which I commonly referr to as The wonderful land of Blahs

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

not too flattering pictures of me, but I wasn't out to be the beauty, I just wanted to find some flowers, I did and that was what I wanted, I was happy when I left the cemetary, booty in my pockets, envelopes shoved full , the kids they were just plucking away, at flowers they shouldn't have plucked yet, but the pictures they took while I was busy, was treasure in itself..

Then we ended up at this place, somewhere south of the border, we had no clue where the road would take us, but I did see some water! so on down the winding road we went, around a curve and a steep hill, the kids were like Whoa! since it was so steep, and here is what we saw.. so we got out, and they went one way, I went another, they went to the water, I went to the edge of the clearing..

so while i checked out the greenery, the kids they checked ouut the water.. chevy ended up knee deep in muck, and I heard Joanna holler.. I went down the the edge where they were at, and they were both giggling crazy, chevy had left a footprint in the mud, that looked like bigfoot had been there.. I told them to be careful, and went back across the way, found an out house and a water pump, made mental note , and walked around the clearing again, looking for something other than poison ivy, which was everywhere, I sighed and became bored, so headed back to the kids, they were chasing something.. they met me with their treasure..

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

a little frog, cute as a bug, not a toad , but a frog, joanna was always my outdoor girl so she was so excited.. she kept dropping it and it would run and hop, they would chase it and catch it, after I took this picture I looked at it.. she said "oh it is playing dead, look!" and I said yeal? She poked at it and it still would n't move, she moaned , " I think I killed it" I told her to throw it in the water, she did, it just sort of bobbled.. I told her it was okay, a fish would eat it and she mourned it right away, fished it out of the water, and gave it a little burial right there, and told me I wasn't to tell a soul, that she killed a frog that day.. I told her not to worry, it wouuldn't be the last time she killed a critter either.. she didn't like my reply, told me I was supposed to tell her it wasn't dead, she left its nose out of the dirt so it could breathe, And I am wondering if this child of mine is really going on 21? She went back to Chevy and I looked down.. in the dried up water floor, and what do I find? Morning glorys galore!

Thumbnail by joeswife
(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

so I holler, go get the shovel, go get the buckets, go get the diggers and hurry! There were cotyleons and plants vining both.. they were everywhere.. what was once under water now cracked up like the desert, had the strong little morning glorys to vine along, I had to get some!

Then we went back to the outhouse, got ready to head out, washed their shoes and our jeans in the water pump, I loaded up my bounty in the back seat instead of the trunk.. and away we went back to kansas, it wasn't very far, we went to a little town that had a real soda fountain, with a counter and stools and all, home made sandwiches and pie and lemonade we ate, and then I said home or keep going? Chevy piped up u are after diana remember? you havn;t found her yet.. and Joanna said Yeal MOM, you need to keep going until u find that mysterious Diana plant.. well I was just kinda looking for her, I said, I have no clue what to look for , no one has a picture of her, except maybe some dried up plants somewhere in lawrence in a herbarium.. Joanna was hot on that, I said no.. it is already 2 thirty.. she reminded me I was headed to cherokee county.. so south and east we headed..we landed in this cemetary , in a little dot oon the road.. tha had a road going up a hill, I saw some colour and said I want to go there,, so a sharp turn off the hiway, winding up a hill we land in a town called Peru, maybe three people lived there .. we didn't know the lens was smudged, but here it is anyway..

I got these, dirt and all, in a ditch by the side of the drive

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

there were other pictures of flowers... too smudged to keep I'm sad to say, that's what happens when kids use your camera not minding of things like that.. when I discovered the smudge, I cleaned it really good, we drove on out of there, headed east, turned south, and ended up in Chetopa, Kansas, The catfish capitol of the world .. they hung out by the car, as I wandered around with my camera, I found this ...

back home we headed after that, it was getting late, we arrived at my doorstep at 8 thirty that night.. I had a grand time and they did too. they catered to my every whim those two...memories were made and I shall go back out in search of the shumardiana morning glory, but first we have a trip to take to Lawrence, Kansas.. the Herbarium, before we set out again. I found my chineses evening glory had bloomed, the bloom was faded to white... no pics here since it was done, maybe I will see the next two that are budded.. today after work I made training ties for the mgs by the door, and out front I found my obscura was vining, I'd not even see it sprout.. out back the lavender moonvine and the spiny stem mg both had outgrown their sticks, so I gave them really tall poles to climb.. plantesis has two more buds, Jamie Lynn is the plant blooming so crazy as well as the pink one too.. star of india popped up, I just have so much going on right now, my little morning glory adventure.. like I needed more .. I planted all those plants I brought back from that lake bed, have some plants in the water tub rooting, need to dig up some ground to get more space for everything..

Very enjoyable thread!

Your garden has wonderful diversity, and the day trip was nice, seeing the wild flowers that grow in your neck of the woods.

I'm adding peach double hibiscus to my notebook.

(Becky, thank you for the YouTube link)

today after work I came home and transplanted the chinese evening glory, cleaned two tall limbs off and made tree stands for the moonflowers, snipped the dead heads off the blue lobelia and the petunias and saved the seeds, transplanted a brugmansia sanguina to bring into the house, watered and fed everything, re arranged the northeast corner pots and planters, tied the setosa to one side of the fence and the palm leaf to the other.. pulled up a ton of volunteers from last year, and took some pictures.. this pot was full of these arrow shaped things, had no clue as to what they are or who put them there. I had a morning glory in that pot LOL

pulled and cut grass around the miko no mai, unwound rebecca and rewound her around her new "tree" pulled the tomatoe plants out of the fence pouch that has the i.rivera corymbosa up, stuck it in the nursery area , snipped at the trumpet vine, rewound the wisteria, staked the glads with the new lion yarn, and took some pictures

miko no mai is up in both places, one on the south fence and one at the outside of the northeast corner of the patio
