Comments regarding Brushwood Nursery

Received a very healthy looking clematis this week! I could not have gotten a healthier plant from a local nursery.

Received my roses and clematis today - good sizes, looks very healthy - can't wait to plant them! Will definitely order again!

Dan is great!! He was very helpful when I was asking question before placing my order. I had 3 vines and a climbing rose arrive today. All are very healthy and look great. I will be ordering from him again.

Plants are well packaged and nice sized for the price. I will be ordering from them again this year.

I just found this company this season. Great selection of native vines. I found some great native wisteria. The wisteria "kate's dwarf" (never found this variety anywhere else) and "longwood blue" arrived healthy and took off like crazy. The canadian explorer roses arrived own root in pots and in glorious condition. Took off like an arrow when put in their new homes.

I ordered a Passiflora incarnata last year from Brushwood Nursery. It seemed to arrive in excellent condition, but I am no authority on passionflowers. Although rated hardy enough for my zone 6 winter, it did not survive. I must admit, it was ordered pretty late, and that might be the reason it did not settle in as well as it might have. However, it should be mentioned that Dan had no problem sending this plant to my climate zone, in October. I trusted that it would be OK, but it wasn't. I am not accustomed to losing plants, but when I have, the suppliers have always been willing to replace them at no charge. It's just a part of doing business, and furthers good will.

I have no doubt that you can have a very satisfactory experience with his company, as long as your plant thrives. If it does poorly, watch out, because you won't be getting a refund or a replacement. Without either, I will not be shopping there again. Is my ill will worth $14.95?

Brushwood Nursery ships plants all over the country to gardeners in many climates. Many choose to plant immediately; others wait. Some take our plants with them as gifts when visiting friends and family in other parts of the country. Many use Passifloras as house plants. We don't tell our customer when they may, or may not, have their plants or how they must use them.
This customer ordered and planted an herbaceous perennial vine outdoors well after her zone's frost date. We had no way of knowing she would do this. If she had asked, we would have advised against it. The plant was shipped in excellent condition and arrived healthy (as she indicates above) in less than a week. The terms and conditions are spelled out clearly and are readily available for customers to read before they purchase. I don't think we failed this customer in service or quality.

On 6/9/06 I ordered 2 Hagley Hybrid Clematis from them. I received them today and they look fantastic. They are a nice size, with lots of follage.

I would definitely order from them again.

I just planted the last of my clematis order today and have to comment at the nice quality of plants. Even though they are just quart plants, they have more roots than other clematis that are in much larger pots (either locally or online). I was also noticing all the cutting back that was done to force the plant to produce multiple stems and am very grateful for that. I never seem to be able to force myself to do that even though I know its good for them in the long run.

If a perfect mailorder nursery exists, Brushwood surely is it. They offer reasonable prices, free shipping, and incredibly healthy, beautiful plants. I am so pleased with my purchase - just wish they sold more than vines and climbers so I could buy all my plants from them.

I ordered 12 Clematis vines online in February from Dan for delivery mid-May. Terrific order process and email confirmation.

I received a shipping confirmation in mid-May for 10 of the 12 and a backorder notification (2 weeks) for 2 of the vines. Appreciated the shipping notification so I could be sure the beds were ready. The backorder was not an issue for me as I will be planting a variety of new plants over the next six weeks.

The 10 that I received on May 18 were in perfect condition, still moist and not a single limp leaf even after traveling all the way to Colorado. Helpful planting instructions were included.

this was the first time i ordered from brushwood nursery.

i rec'd my vines in absolute PERFECT condition. well packaged. they didn't even need watering?? they look as though someone was taking care of them as they traveled...but i didnt' find anyone in the box!

i highly recommend brushwood and will be coming back for more in the future.

I just got my vines from Brushwood and they are healthy, well packed, and larger than I expected for the price. They sent me email notification when they were ready to ship, which is really appreciated. The only complaint I have is their no pick up policy as I live not too far from Unionville PA where their operation is, but their shipping rates are reasonable so I'll forgive them! In sum, great products, prompt shipping, definitely on my favorites list.

This was my first experience with Brushwood, and I waited until my Flutterbye Climbing Rose and Bignonia Tangerine Beauty Cross Vine were established to make a comment here.

In three weeks time, I've had to put more stakes on the Cross Vine, and the Climbing Rose is so healthy and producing beautiful blooms.

Shipping was exceptionally fast, and packaging was excellent.

This is a company I highly recommend, and look forward to doing business with Brushwood again in the fall!

I just received (and planted) 3 clematis and 6 passifloras that I recently ordered from Brushwood. I am new to southern gardening and in the last 3 months, I have ordered approximately 75 different plants from at least 7 nurseries. Believe me, nothing I have received can compare to the quality of these Brushwood Nursery plants! They are much bigger than I expected and lush, green, and expertly packed. If these plants fail, it will be a testament to the gardener--me. It is obvious that Brushwood did all THEY could to ensure that these plants had the best possible start. Thank you, Brushwood!

Yet another 100% satisfied customer. The health and vigor of the clematis vines, the packaging, the transaction process and the value were all excellent. The plants even arrived on a Friday to allow prompt planting the following day---I don't know if it was planned that way but from the attention to detail already shown, it would not surprise me.

In this day of the fast-buck, bottom line mentality, people who run their business the way Dan runs his (the old fashioned way) should be commended and patronized lest they fade away.

I received my first Clematis from Brushwood last week. They were the most beautifully grown Clematis I have ever received from a mail order catalog. The plants had an extensive root system. The leaves were unblemished. The packing was excellent. I will order plants from this company again.

This is the first year for several years I am ordering from mail order companies. Brushwood's plants (clematis and climbing roses) that I ordered arrived the quickest. They are huge, healthy plants. Will buy from them again -- also free shipping and $10 discount for ordering 6 plants. WOW

i am still amazed at the size of the plants i received from brushwood and they arrive so fresh and vibrant. they indeed look better than some of the plants that i purchase locally and to think, they don't even charge shipping if you order just two plants. some other companies charge as much for the shipping as the plants are worth. their plants are packed in quart containers. i can't say enough good things about this nursery.

BRUSHWOOD NURSERY MAKES ME HAPPY

I ordered several clematis cultivars to trellis among a pair of Zephirine Drouhin roses, a group of climbing Souvenir de la Malmaison, and another design with Celine Forestier roses. The clematis established, and grew to 5’ heights the first season. They are stunning displays.

One of the several Passiflora I ordered at the same time seemed to balk at the transit. I notified Dan and told him that the plant, although packed with great care and diligence, may not survive. He wrote back at once, was infallibly courteous, apologized and replaced it with my selection from available stock. The replacement arrived in a couple of days.

Even Dan’s less aggressive Passiflora cultivars now look like they are on steroids as they nearly covered a 13’ wire dome in one season.

It is a pleasure to do business with this conscientious company.

The 2 clematis plants I ordered arrived exactly on schedule. They are both beautiful, healthy plants on very nice root systems. The plants were wonderfully packed to provide protection for the abundant top growth and to keep them moist. Dan provided great e-mail communication through every stage of the transaction. I placed an order for a passiflora and a lonicera. After placing the order I emailed them to see if they could include a clematis. I have ordered a number of plants from this company and they have always arrived very healthy with good root development. I received one clematis last year that turned out to be misslabeled. I didn't realize that is was not the correct plant until this year when it began to bloom for the first time. When I notified Dan of this, he promptly sent out the correct variety. An excellent company to do business with. I highly recommend.

I always look here first when I want to buy vines. I have ordered for a couple of years and the plants I receive seem to be healthier and bigger with each order. I like the flat price and size, and of course no shipping charge. Dan is always promt and helpful when answering any questions via E-mail. I think this is the only method of communication.

I was very pleased with performance first season, but this second year, my Brushwood plants are thriving. The clematis is putting out its second round of blooms this summer in Massachusetts and the passiflora and aristolochia in my Florida yard have taken off. I will be ordering again this Fall.

I purchased an akebia vine and a dutchmans pipe this spring from your company and although it has not died, it has not grown (either one of them). I planted the akebia in the same bed as another akebia from a different company, theirs is growing like crazy and yours is not doing anything. Roses and Clematis you sent me are doing great. Just puzzeled about the akebia and dutmans pipe.

The Akebia 'Kohin Nishiki' is variegated and far less vigorous than the usual Akebia quinata. You may actually find this is an advantage in the long run. The Aristolochia macrophylla is most likely just settling into its new home with you. Once it gets going, it will take off and really look great! Try some liquid fetilizer and water liberally until it gets established. I've seen this species thriving right next to a waterfall in the Smoky Mountains!

This is an excellent company. I received strong, healthy plants on time and in great shape. They were able to provide exactly the cultivars I was looking for at very reasonable prices.
I emailed them several times with questions about growing and pollinating and they responded quickly with the information I needed.
The passifloras have lots of growth and leaves. The clematis was at least a foot tall on arrival, and I think it has grown another foot just since I planted it, maybe 2 weeks ago!
It is nice to deal with a company that specializes in vines and really knows their products. If I find room for more vines on my property, I will definitly order again next year.
