Garden Photos of '09...#26
Shelly, that is quite an undertaking. I know how frustrating it can be when a "simple" project turns into a major feat of engineering. Remember, it's all improvements and that you will be the one reaping the benefits!
Congrats, Victor on your milestone! Many times I've looked up a plant in PlantFiles and found an amazing series of photos submitted by you. Thank you for your contribution to this site. After looking at all your lovely pictures of Coppertina and Cotinus Grace, I ended up coming home with them.
Here is 'Coppertina'...
Thanks, Dyane! Thanks for the new thread too. Great shots. You will love both shrubs. Grace can get very leggy, but you can cut it back. I have twice already.
Beautiful clems, Shelly. Great lighting as usual.
Great rose series, Daisy. How many do you have?
Daisy... lovely roses, but the pug is sooo cute!
Thanks Pixie... I'll have to give some seeds a shot
Thanks Dyane... that's a good way of looking at it and what I keep telling myself. So hopefully it will all end up being true! Lovely Pics! how long have you had that lamium in the ground? I recently planted some and am wondering if I already need to move two small plants that are near it.
Thanks Victor.
initially I wasn't going to post this because it was out of focus, but then decided it's still cute.
These little troopers decided to cross an off/on ramp to a freeway yesterday as I began my commute home. Fortunately they picked a slow traffic day and time of day and were quick enough in doing it that I couldn't get my camera out and focused quick enough to get a clear picture before cars started moving again.
Thanks, everyone, for nice comments on puggie and roses.
Victor, about how many roses I have ... I'm afraid to take a count. LOL
Ask me about my peonies. I'm afraid to count those, too.
Daisygrrl, it's all good.... we are used to obsessions, we all have them.
I have over 300 daylilies, over 100 lilies and im working on 100 iris's now. My roses I can still count on my fingers and toes.^_^
Dyanne's Garden: Your Coppertina will be one of the highlights of your garden in years to come, I hope. Mine certainly is!
Forgot to say - Thanks for the fern ID, Karen. It does look like it.
Planting today what I hope some day will be a highlight of the garden, Enkianthus campanulatus "Albiflorus" or the White Enkiathus http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/79581/. Put it in a very high-profile place next to the potting shed and the driveway. Think I have it where the snow plow won't run it over. It's a tiny thing, bought at Broken Arrow Nursery at the Trade Secrets fair in Salisbury, CT. But it's supposed to be vigorous and very showy. They said put is some place where you'll see it every day. Well, that's certainly the potting shed and driveway.
I love all enkianthus!
I found the tag from that pinky old fashioned rose I couldn't name this morning in my garden shed. It's Colette Climber, and it was from the Hasslefree Rose Co. I don't see their plants in my garden centers anymore, and I got a couple of goodies from them over the last couple of years. I wonder if they're out of business.
great blooms Dayne!!!... love that Colette Climber Daisy
Great pics, all!
Oh, no! Dyane, it's all your fault! I need that Golden Spirit smokebush in the worst way! One more thing for my want (no need!) list. That lamium looks great along the stairway.
You're welcome, Victor, anytime!
Got a ton of weeding done yesterday, in fact a weeding marathon. I weeded one of my many tradescantia jungles, though the roots have to be dug up to prevent them from returning. I will eventually put more beds in here. Here is a picture of a couple of weed piles with my Patches.
Karen
Those pics were early in the morning. The sun hits that area for a good part of the day.
Well, gotta go to my overnight job now. Ta ta for now!
Karen
Karen, oh I feel for you with that tradescantia jungle. I had to do the same thing once and it's horrible.
I can sympathize too. I have out of hand chameleon, northern sea oats, eupatorium Chocolate and gooseneck loosestrife. In one area, I have the loosestrife and chameleon together!
Victor, how does that Eupatorium Chocolate spread? I planted it under one of my Black Walnut trees where it's very difficult to grow many things. Does it spread by underground runners or by seed?
I spent the day digging out Lily of the Valley and Vinca. I like them both but they were really out of control. I've been pulling it out for three years.
Seeds - big time!! Before I knew it, of course, or I would have deadheaded mercilessly.
Funny - I planted LOV about 11 years ago in one area and it has hardly done anything!
Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure to deadhead. Funny about that LoTV, I love it. It's one of my favorites from my childhood but this property was completely covered in it. A little patch here and there is nice.
Victor.... who's winning the battle between the loosestrife and chameleon?
Thanks for the condolences Karen! lol Nice work in the yard today yourself!
Dyane...thanks for the pics of the progress of the lamium, I think that my nearby plants will be safe for a while. I have intentions of moving the other nearby plants anyhow, I'm just hoping that the lamium doesn't speed up the timeline. I think my pace of getting to it will be ok.
I really like the black currant Jo Ann
