Good morning,
I have a large crab apple tree with thick roots in that area. Because it will be difficult to dig deep, my friend suggested that I plant annuals. Are there any perennials that come in a small pot? I would need approximately three flats of impatiens which would be quite costly.
Thanks,
Karen
plants around tree
sedums are perinials and like shade. sorta a ground cover but do flower.
hostas might work too they also like shade and come in different colors.
daylilies also are a good bet and they clump eventually and can be divided.
these are come in small sizes
YOu should be able to buy perennials in small pots so they are easy to plant even amongst the roots. Dont let that stop you.
I have a huge old Laurel Leaf Willow in my back yard and grow lots of perennials underneath it.
Personally I would rather spend my $$ on penennials that wont have to be replaced every year rather than annuals.
