Help with broccoli, please....

Louisville, KY

Hi, I'm growing two beautiful broccoli plants (they are called pacman broccoli), and tons of yellow flowers are blooming but not sure what is going to happen next. The yellow flowers fall off but I dont see any buds. Can anyone tell me about this particular type and what to expect? Many thanks.

When you see the yellow flowers, you have missed the turn. The broccoli heads are the clump of flower buds from which open into those yellow blossoms. You want to harvest them before they open.

Maybe you missed the heads and it bolted. If you planted it late it can do that. Farmerdill could that be true?

Broccoli is one of those plants where you actually eat the seedheads. So you actually want it to bolt (send up seedheads). The point is that that you must harvest the seedheads before the flowers open. Sometimes under stress, the plants will prematurely form small seedheads ( button) or if caught by heat or drought stress later in the season put up straggly uneven heads. If you have flowers, the broccoli has done its thing, you just missed the edible stage, which is the unopen flower buds.
