Is there a consensus about what book is the best book for learning vegetable gardenning?
Best Book for veggie gardening
You'll never get a consensus! Everyone has his/her favorite gardening book or source of information. Part of the fun of gardening is reading gardening books and either clutching them to your chest with a sigh of relief, or tossing them across the room accompanied by a pithy description of the ignorance of the author!
Personally, I love Cornell's site at which vegetable gardeners from all over the country rate and review varieties, and my old standard reliable vegetable gardening book is the unsophisticated, straight-from-the-shoulder, this-is-what-the-plant-looks-like, this-is-the-pest-that-attacks-it, this-is-how-you-protect-it New York Times Book of Vegetable Gardening by Joan Lee Faust. It was published in 1975, but bugs, diseases and basic crops haven't changed that much in almost 25 years. I'm quite sure it is out of print, but probably a used copy is available at Alibris.com.
