She is still adorable isn't she? You should see the facial expressions that she comes up with....you would sooooo be in love like I am!
Kathy, Thank you for the condolences. You are right, no matter if you know that the bad part of the "circle of life" is imminent, it doesn't make it any easier. I will miss Lex for a long time, she was a big part of my life for a lot of years.
Tilly
I love all animals, and it seems like for the most part they are all OK with me, but it is something special when you find that true bond. I have had several wonderful dogs in my life, but have never found a better best friend than Lexy had been. There was just something between us...she chose me and I chose her. Even though she was almost blind and was deaf as a post, she still spent every minute that I was in the garden at my side. I love Phoenix with the adoration of a new puppy, and I am so truely hoping that it turns into the true deep love that Lexy and I shared.
Following Phoenix.......
LOL Tils, your dogs gave me a bath on Sunday when I was there. I probably smelled like dogs and cats to them. They are really neat.
Was it water or mud LOL So sorry I was not there when you arrived.
Ester is my shadow, the silly girl is so bonded with me its not funny. I got her out of a bad place, and she shows her love for that each day.
I took the puppy (Tyler) on a weekend party 2 years ago, all the employees that worked at the Big Lots in Sequim, as we where closing the store.
She was so sad, DH said she would not eat the whole time we where gone. We where gone a hole 72 hours. Was it the pup or me ???
I know when I got home, she would not let alone. I can not do anything without her close.
Just a good ole lickin'.
Nothin better than good ol' dog spit to put a smile on your face!
Yup Tilly, sounds like you have the same bond with Ester as I had with Lexy. No matter where you are, they are always right there. Phoenix is more of a lover, but also a little more independent....she is either resting by my side or all over me when she is "with" me, but she cruises off and checks out the surrounding area on her own on a regular basis.
We will see what the next year or so brings, but I love her dearly already!
Such a pretty girl!!!
Phoenix has learned recently that the car means going good places, and now she is almost impossible to keep out if a car door opens. She was so happy to meet so many of her DG friends on Saturday night at the roundup, and was basically a very good girl (one long time-out for stealing a quesadilla off of the hors d’oeuvre table isn't too bad for a puppy!)
Phoenix is such a cutie. Boy, I wish I had that much energy! ;) I enjoyed meeting her, and Mona and Gidget, too. Sweet dogs all around. :)
Like the pic of Mona and Phoenix Tills! Please put that one into photobucket if you have time as I would love to have it! I am going to guess that Mona slept very well on Saturday night as she and Phoenix got along grandly and spent quite a bit of time playing a happy game of run and chase in Lynn's freshly raked dirt (sorry Lynn!)
Pony, thank you! A party is always better with furbabies in attendance, and they just bask in all of the extra attention!
I am finally having time this am to sort some of my own pics from the last month and a half and found this picture that really shows that my girl is a little dog now and not "cute puppy" any more....
Julie..she is just beautiful. Such a healthy & shiny coat. You are a good Mommy.
Oh No! I hope it wasn't plugged in at the time. Maybe she's teething?
No, not plugged in. Fortunately wound up with a bundle tie holding it together. She is definitely teething, as she has no canines right now. Who might have advice on more acceptable teething alternatives? (Mommy 2!!!!!)
I remember seeing these Kong chew toys at a pet store and they come in all sizes and I have known people with large dogs who have used them with success. I had to laugh when i saw this link. Does it remind you of someone?? Click on products... then dogs.. then rubber toys..

Be thankful she is not a tire biter. Found this AP news story earlier today.
Deputy's car becomes large chew toy
WOOF: Dog deflates tires

Some dogs chase cars. One in a North Carolina town decided to try to eat one.
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office says a pit bull deflated all four tires of a deputy's cruiser near Hope Mills on Sunday.
Spokeswoman Debbie Tanna says the deputy parked his car in a woman's driveway while responding to her complaint about another dog.
When Deputy Lynn Lavallis went to speak with Gloria Bass, the dog chomped into the tires. The dog didn't attack the deputy in the town near Fayetteville.
Tanna says the dog's owner, Bass's next-door neighbour, will be billed $500 for a new set of wheels.

Way past teething, but will be in the puppy chew stage for awhile (mine were for over a year). You can put bitter apple on your cords - I use dishwashing liquid on them.
Kong is a great alternative for dogs who chew hard. I have a toy basket for my dogs and let them know that anything from there is okay. They like to gut the soft toy and get the squeaker, but aren't so much into hard chewing.
For $30, you can get a serious Nylon bone. My girlfriend's lab takes 6 months to get it down to toss size.
When my ridgeback was teething I did 2 things that seemed to bring her relief:
1 - wet washrag, rolled up & wrung out - keep several in the freezer. I let her "chew" on these while holding it against her gums. She loved it - I think it felt pretty good to bear down on it while those new teeth were trying to come through.
2 - massage the gums, throughout the mouth, but concentrating on the new teeth areas. She still likes me to do this for her.
3 - I used a homeopathic remedy for babies/ toddlers specifically formulated for teething. It is in a tiny "pellet" form; is administered under the tongue & readily absorbed. Worked well on her & my son.
Bea, that Kong commercial must have stolen one of Phoenix's candid shots!!!!
Thanks, others for advice. Am really worried about my garage while I am away this weekend! Rarejem had better keep a close eye on it!!!!!!!!
Bea, I just finaly went to the link on the Kong site....WOW....my puppy!
I agree with mom...thanks to everyone for the advice. I decided to get a couple of the Kong toys (have to have more than one with more than one dog.) I can tell you right now that it will be a long time before Phoenix lays quietly next to one if it has a cookie in it! I have not decided if they are a good chew toy or puppy torture......
LOL! try different treats inside to keep her interested. Peanut butter, dog bisquits, chicken meat, hot dogs..they all work well.
Actually, the Kongs were instant favorites with all of the dogs, which is a problem in itself. Fortunately, being used to being a multi furry Momma, I bought several of them, knowing that there would be a possession issue. I think her yawn in that picture was due to staying up all night guarding this one from Bonnie who had immediately claimed her standard Kong.
We have been working on puppy training...she has "sit" down perfectly, and is pretty good about come and lay down as well. If anyone is looking for fantastic doggie treats, I was tipped about the Duck Jerky dog treats that Costco is carrying right now, and all of the dogs think it is the best stuff they have ever had!
The Costco jerky treats are great. Mine go for them, too.
I coat my power cords with a little bit of dishwashing liquid - it seems to do the trick. My dogs didn't so much go for power cords, but the cats were awful.
cats like power in any form...
Hee hee.
Phoenix has decided that the car is now her very favorite place. It always takes her somewhere fun, and it is where Mom has hid all the soft puppy squeaky toys so that the rest of the dogs don't shred them to bits. She needs no encouragement to "kennel up", and sits like a little coyote howling when she is sniffing the window air.
She still has the knack for the funky sleeping poses though.
This was on our trip to EWA last week...she is in the back seat, feet up against the passenger door, belly on the backrest, and head curled up against the fruit box...
ROFL! OMG The bat face. *dies*
To cute
She needs her own TV show. She is just darling!
That is so funny. I really am LOL.
I needed a good laugh and you gave me an excellent one!!! ROFLOL!!!
