This evening I found a White-crowned Sparrow sitting on the airport fence, singing his heart out.

Anchorage, AK(Zone 4a)

He was so intent on announcing, his claim to the territory, I was able to walk right up to him.

It's 11 P.M. local time and we have a beautiful orange and pink sun set at the moment. It will last for another hour or so. Not quite far enough north to have a midnight sun. We are three hours ahead of the proper geographic time zone.

Sometimes it seems strange hearing birds which sing in the evening, singing at the same time as birds which sing in the morning.

Great shots guys!!

Oh! The sparrow is lovely! Pelle, I'm so proud of the Common Loon. I wanted to go back to the site and hoping for better picture this afternoon, but there are errands need to be done. I hope we can make another trip looking for it this coming weekend.

I was surprised that this Brown Thrasher just poses and poses for one picture after another as I was walking toward it. Brave little soul!

Could it be a juvenile whose innocence shows?

Because I think I saw another thrasher nearby frantically try to coax the other to fly away from the human with the camera on her hands. lol.

3gardeners, I've been wishing for a shot like that on one of the great egrets -- those graceful inflight shot of the birds are much wanted. Seemingly, the gull is heading straight at you. lol.

Also, thanks again for helping I.D. the common loon pix.

North Augusta, ON

You were so lucky to get that Loon pic! I would be thrilled as well. I really like the in-flight shots too.

That's a wonderful shot of the Thrasher Lily! It's so nice to find a cooperative subject for a change.

Nice gull catch 3g!

North Augusta, ON

I meant to comment on that Thrasher too...such a cutie!!

Another new one for me...Eastern Kingbird

Very nice! Congratulations!!

Thank you!

Like I mentioned over on Bird ID, you all are making me healthier...traipsing after birds I'm finally starting to drop those few pounds that I've been forever trying to lose.

Brainerd, MN

Beautiful shots. I've never seen a Thrasher. Nice!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Loved seeing everyone's photos!

A 'Mute Swan' (photo taken this week) that has thus far escaped the wrath of Maryland's Department of Natural Resources. The local population has dropped from nearly 4,000 a few years ago to a current few hundred. Last month, it was recommended that the invasive species be eliminated to preserve wetlands and endangered native birds.

Beautiful!!
I have a hard time thinking of swans as invasive species!

Wow catching up is hard to do!! Beautiful shots everyone. I luv them all!!

Here is a Gray Catbird that has been coming to my feeder everyday for the past week. One of my favorite birds!

Grasmussen: Love the White crowned sparrow on the barbed wire.
Lilylove: Congrats on the brown thrasher shots. I can't get them to cooperate. Love their long beaks.
Great shots all!
Spilled some thistle seed on my deck rail and caught this female northern cardinal this misty morning.
