I Cut my bougainvillea back at the beginning of spring. It bounced back really quick and filled with new branches and leaves. Now it seems to be dropping all its leaves at an alarming rate.
any ideas as to why?
Bougainvillea dropping all its leaves
Too much water?
I can't tell much from that pic--I'd still check on your watering, that's the only thing (besides frost) that made my bougies drop leaves back when I used to grow them. Could be something else of course but watering issues are a very common thing. Before the next time you would normally water them, try sticking your finger down a couple inches into the soil near the plant and see how it feels--if it's pretty wet then that's probably what's going on. Just because the one next to it is doing fine doesn't mean it's not a watering issue--could be there's a slight slope and that one's a bit higher up than this one, or has slightly better drainage, or the other plant was healthier to begin with and will take more time to start showing symptoms of stress from overwatering. Only other thing I can think of is gophers or some other underground critter munching the roots, that can cause similar symptoms. With the wall and the driveway there it doesn't look like the sort of beds I usually have trouble with gophers getting into but it's always possible.
Thank you!
