I think I screwed up

Hershey, PA

I bought garden soil and planted my vegetables/herb in pots with this soil. I didn't realize it was garden soil and the directions said to mix with regular ground soil before planting. I took the top layer of garden soil out of the pots and mixed it with potting mix. What's going to happen to my plants, should I remove them from the pots and start over? :(

If these are annuals, you're probably fine - just water and feed throughout the growing season.

If perennials, I think I'd just buy some good quality potting soil and repot them.

If the pots drain well, you're fine. You may have to fertilize more often with a diluted amount of fertilizer.

Thank you . . . . they're tomato and pepper plants and a few herbs. I will fertilize tonight if it's not raining!

Don't overfertilize your herbs--they like tough love and lean soil. If you fertilize them frequently, you'll have big plants, lush foliage and little taste. Depending on the size of the pot the herbs are in (large will hold more water/fertilizer, smaller will need watering more frequently, and the fertilizer will wash out) I'd fertilize gently once a month. If the plant looks puny, give it a little more food.
If you're having too much rain, send a little west to Texas. We can always use it!
