Phoebe: We've had more than our share of rain but it's been extremely hot and humid here too.It was still 81º at 11:30 last night! Our rainy season is usually June, July & August. We had 7 or 8 straight non stop days of rain last month ... 21+ inches in those eight days! Floods in parts of the city that caused many millions of dollars worth of damage. It was pretty unbelievable, as I've never seen anything like that in the 36 years we've been in Daytona Beach. Now we are into our regular pattern of afternoon thunderstorms. Before last month we were in almost severe drought conditions with wild fires around the state but all this rain has sure taken care of fires! Hurricane season is here now and hopefully we won't have any major cane's strike the U.S. this year!
jmp24: There are still a few pristine areas in Florida along the coasts that aren't real congested. That particular tower cam in my link above is one of the main tourist areas ... showing the big hotels along that part of the beach.
I love the west coast of Florida. We used to take our boat over and vacation on Longboat Key (Sarasota area) every summer. My husband loves the water for boating over there but it's so much hotter than on the east coast ... the gulf waters are so much warmer than the atlantic. Fort Myers, Sanibel and Captiva Islands ... we love that area too but haven't been there in years.
My husband is giving final exams today so he will be off until mid August and we hope to get over to the west coast for a few days. We've talked about Sarasota area but might go farther south to Charlotte Harbor, Boca Grande etc. My sister and her husband who live in the Fort Lauderdale area want us to come down that way and go to the keys. My husband is a scuba diver and prefers going someplace where he can dive so we may end up spending a couple of days down in the keys instead of the west side of the state.
Thought I'd share a few more images of my city: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=images+of+daytona+beach+florida&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=TfM8Sp7zAt6ntgedua0E&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title
