I have two peace plants. The one I have had for a year has only bloomed twice and the one I got at Christmas has only bloomed once. How often should they bloom? Is there anything I can do to get them to bloom?
How do I get my peace plant to bloom?
I don't know anything about those plants but I would have thought that they won't bloom more often; plants need time to "rest" between blooms.
Try feeding with a bloom booster type plant food, one with a high middle number. I use orchid food 11-35-15. The directions say 1 teaspoon per gallon of water but I only use 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water.
I've had this large variegated Peace Lily for years and I used to have a few of the petite solid green leaf variety also. The only way I can get them to re-bloom is to feed every couple of months with the bloom booster fertilizer.
Here is the link information in Plant Files for Spathiphyllum (Peace Lily): http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/adv_search.php?searcher%5Bcommon%5D=&searcher%5Bfamily%5D=&searcher%5Bgenus%5D=spathiphyllum&searcher%5Bspecies%5D=&searcher%5Bcultivar%5D=&searcher%5Bhybridizer%5D=&searcher%5Bgrex%5D=&search_prefs%5Bblank_cultivar%5D=&search_prefs%5Bsort_by%5D=rating&images_prefs=both&Search=Search
Thanks so much for the replies. I have actually never given the peace lilies any fertilizer so that's probably part of my probem. So is that the same as feeding it? I try to water them about once a week and keep them rotated. I really do not do much else with these two other than wipe the leaves every now and then.
What does a variegated peace lily look like? My fav. out of my two has dark leaves and is really full looking. The leaves are about three inches wide and about nine inches long. It looks really outstanding when in bloom. I can't wait to replant in a different pot (bigger).
Yes, feeding & fertilizing - same thing. I use orchid fertilizer to get lots of blooms.
I went out and took a picture of my large variegated Spathiphyllum. It's blooming it's head off and I'm glad I looked closely at it, I found holes chewed in some leaves ... now I need to figure out what bug is eating it!
Beautiful plant! It's almost as if it's made of marble with the various shades of green. Looks like that orchid fertilizer really works, I'll be sure to grab some next time I'm out. Good Luck with your bug issue and I hope your plant doesn't get hurt too bad. :)
Thanks for sharing the tip and pic.! ~meski2k
