Is this small area too crowded??

Oklahoma City, OK

I planted the cala lillies because i knew that the clematis vine needed the bottom shaded. Then i added a few more things thinking I had plenty of room. Then the begonias that my grandma gave me (that barely came up last year) popped up. I had completely forgot about them.

If so, is it too hot to transfer flowers and won't the roots be intertwined???

Doesn't look too crowded to me.

Okeechobee, FL

I think it looks nice-appealing.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Heck, when they grow and fill in it will look even better! :o)

I have to agree, nature grows plants one nearly on top of the other in a 'wild' setting. As long as you supply enuf water and nutrition these plants should fill in very nicely and choke out any weedling that dare try to germinate. Well done.

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

I'd have it jammed full, but spacing has never been my strong point. If you like it and the plants are happy that's all that matters.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

Ditto to all the above. If you like it, that's all that matters !
It looks great.

Hildale, UT

It looks lovely! Don't change a thing. :)

Fort Washington, MD

I agree with 1lisac- I could find lots more stuff to put in there! Looks great!

Honey, you have discovered green mulch! Plants will shade out weeds and conserve moisture, and cool the soil as well as any mulch does, and they are generally prettier. Your spot looks lovely--send another picture when it fills in a bit more (I envy you the clematis--it is drop dead gorgeous!).

I think it looks great. The only thing I might add is a hosta at the base of the clematis, as this will help keep it's roots cool.

Thank you so much for all your great comments. I would love to put a hosta. but this area gets too much sun. Doesn't it? I remember hearing something about soem hostas tolerate some sun. Does anyone happen to know which ones?

Thanks again. :)

Typically the ones that have yellow in them can take more sun.

okay. i love hostas. im always so envious of people who have great big giant ones. the only shade i get is in the back yard and i have two big dogs so i gave up on trying to grow stuff back there. im definately gonna give it a go. thanks!

I've found some cool hostas on http//:www.craigslist. com.

Just look for someone who is dividing their garden.

Delhi, LA

Everything looks great.

Hey, Texas. How does your Basil grow? Mine is great.

San Angelo, TX(Zone 7b)

Looks good to me

Billerica, MA(Zone 6a)

If you can see bare ground between plants then it's not too crowded. :)
