victor thx for the heads up on the spirea - i will have to think about what to do with the dozen little guys lj sent - the fire pit is real close to them-think?

Dyane...love the shots of the scabiosa and anemone!
Karen.... all the pics are very pretty. i really like those two of the digitalis, near the house, in the sunset.
Robin... I love that corydalis!! You might not have planted it. It reseeds pretty well, so if one of your neighbors had it or it's possible that it came in as a seed in the pot of another plant. I acquired one that way one time. The generations kept going for a few years until the sprinkler system broke and I didn't realize that they weren't getting watered.
Victor... that penstemon fits it's name!

Jo Ann... for one of my pictures in the thread before this, you said that you'd never seen a rhody flower that looked like that one ( http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6622191 )
It was backlit, so I figured under normal lighting it might look a little more normal. Although, it was actually pretty dim for the time of day, but light enough.

Here's a close up of the flower.

Hi RC
Rhodies aree beautiful.
I must have had a geezer moment when I remarked about the rhodie pix.
Backlit made the center dark so it looked like a single form flower with a dark center like a cone flower, How could I have been so off base.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Lupines some are big and some small

OK, smart Alec DD home from college to take pictures for her for mother. Very artsy. Poppies I once knew the name of, but I don't even know which one she shot.

Carrie - tell artsy DD good job! I love the closeup. It would make an awesome B&W poster, don't you think?

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I don't know - B & W never occurs to me until I see someone else doing it then I say "duh, why didn't I think of that?" I can't visualize it like that....

This is a different one, I hope.

Very pretty. It already looks similar to a Van Gogh painting.

Bill, I just picked up Lady in Red two weeks ago.

Nice Lupines, shickenlady.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Thanks Jo Ann. I thought that normal lighting might make it appear a little more normal. Although the flower that you were describing does exist, it's just much harder to find.
Thanks Allison!
Very pretty Sherrie and Carrie.

Thomaston, CT

Shelley, I'm drooling over those rhodies----they probably aren't hardy here---you're right about the corydallis----I think it came in a pot with another plant. Karen---love the penstemons----I only have buds on one right now---we are a little colder here. Sherrie, I envy the lupines---cannot get them to winter over! And Carrie----very nice shots of the OP. Dyane, like Bill, I only have leaves on 'Lady in Red'---but it overwintered & I'm happy with that! Here is rhodie 'Percy Wiseman'.

Here's what's happening at my house.

That's a bunch of beauties, and soon-to-be beauties! You should be very proud!

I have a question ... the package said, 'McKana's Giant' columbine, I swear. So, why doesn't it look like any of the other McKana's in the PlantFiles?

Thumbnail by Candyce
South Hamilton, MA

It is a double form--look at columbines listed as a form of 'Barlow' (maybe with an e on the end') & you will see other doubles.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Ahhh ..... that explains it then. I was quite surprised to see it as a double when I was expecting something entirely different. I'll go check out the Barlow's.

Thanks

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Sherrie, looks great
RC, love all the rhodie pics, mine are all done for the season
Carrie, very cool poppy close up

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

It looks like a Barlow, but I'm hard-pressed to find out which it may be. I see all of the layers of petals and get frustrated in trying to get a correct I.D. It's a columbine, for sure. And now, that's all I really know about it.

Thumbnail by Candyce

Its not MCkana's Giants Mix

LOL!
That's exactly the package that we bought them in. I'll bet they were mis-labeled. Now, I'll be scratching my head as the rest of them unfurl.

Thanks Sherrie

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Sure looks like 'Aquilegia vulgaris var. stellata', Nora Barlow to me.
What do you think?

Hey, Debilu ....
Remember that Columbine you gave me in the container at the RU last year? This is what it bloomed into. I love the deep color!!!

Thank you everyone -- to me DD's close-ups look like Georgia O'Keefe! that's what college does for you. Very pretty flowers everybody.
