I bought some Asparagus, Martha Washington, I think, that were grown from seed.
This one has some bell looking flowers on it, is this normal ?
Asparagus Flowers ?
Asparagus have both male and female plants and they both flower. The difference is that the females will produce red berry like structures. Martha Washington is an older open pollinated variety but a descent garden performer. Market growers will choose all male asparagus plants and the Jersey types are the standard it seems. The reasoning is that they grow a little thicker spear thus more weight. In my opinion you could do a lot worse than MW.
Thanks Cyclops for the info
