Hi I got a couple of guara whirling butterflies and they were so rootbound the inside soil was dry...should I cut down the plant to give the roots a chance? They're about to flower but I'll sacrifice the immediate reward for the health of the plant, if that's best.
ugh...got rootbound perennials...should I cut them down?
perrenials do that........the middle of their root balls die. Dig them up and break apart the root ball and throw away the dead part. You can divide the rest of the root ball up into many more plants.......as long as each section has a few roots.........and replant them. Trim about half the tops off before you replant so the roots can concentrate on geting re-established rather than supporting top growth.
Jay thanks so much! I'll do that!
