SUNFLOWER CONTEST..no rules, just post yours!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Gwen, I started some inside and transplanted and they croaked. Then the seed as I said on many occasions and each time they were covered. They appear to be comin up now finally this last batch. I think that between the rains and then the lack of sunshine perhaps they just couldn't get a good strong start.
I have an idea who your tipster is there flowertips, perhaps I think I'd take that rumor with a grain of salt LOL!

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

We just tossed ours on top of the dirt and many barely got dirt for cover....

Must go look for my Zinnia seed...I think I can still give those a whirl even as late as it seems. We had a late spring, so I am anticipatine fall will be late too. Dont know until ya try!

Haighr, loooook out for that mud ball, things have been getting deep to overflowing back at the cafe.

Going to check on the little darlings today! Hope to have pics later.

Sunflower raffle, 25 Sunflowers planted.

Here's what's gone... numbers, 3, 4, 7, 15 and 20. Everything else is up for grabs, pick a number if you would like a Sunflower in your name!

Any sign of yours coming up yet Gwen? number 3 is looking good!
I'm growing Zinnas this year Blossom, they are starting to get buds now. How are your Sunflowers?
How are 'Yours' doing Dianne?

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, terri, this roving reporter of the sunflower patch has goodnews.. they are neck high as I stand in the patch. I hope to have pics later, but you know how that goes...the pizzy lil camera is having brain farts.

Usually I do zinnias too, but this year I forgot all about them. To much clean up yet from the ice storm and the place I normally plant them has gone grassy.

I did seed in some panys seed in some of my petunia hanging baskets and I am trying some loofas rather late. My tomato baskets are getting flwoers now! But they have not really started to hang down in the baskets yet. Well time will tell on those.

Was I supposed to get a few more tickets from you?

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

No problemo mate. We are in this thing together. Soz didja get in the garden to see the new inventory of blooms? When you hit the dirt there back at belles, I thought you was in shock. Sorry I had to leave you and run, but Bloomers is reliable and she got you up.

Hot off the press - some of the sunflowers have overtaken my height, as you can see from the pic.

Gorgeous. And the sunflowers aren't bad either. :)

Come on, tho, admit it. You're really not an inch over 3 feet tall, are you? ;)

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi Gwen - just a tad over 3 feet loL. I was 4 feet nine and a quarter inches, but I have been shrinking.......
And the best part about these sunflowers, I don't have to lift a finger to take care of them.
and, at work, I always have my key around my neck because I have the tendency to place my keys down where ever and whenever, and got tired of looking for them.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well the rye grass to the right is about 6 foot tall.....the sunflowers to the left...A-hem! LOL!

london England, United Kingdom

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Sad news from this sunflower patch.. due to lack of moisture, we are shrinking.... Whaaaah!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Yikes, I think I will have to bow outta the competition, think the groundhog or bunny got to mine, don't have any idea where they went.

you go girl...if i dint get some rain, the spares are cooked....dangggg!

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

How long do sunflower seeds take to germinate? I planted some at least a week ago, covered them with row cover so the birds wouldn't get them, and only have 1 or 2 germinated so far.

I planted corn on the same day and it's all up and growing fine.

I planted 5 difference kinds of sunflowers so I don't think I had a bad batch.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

LOL! GOT RAIN!! Whooo hoo!, but dangggg its humid!

Patience dear gwen, patience, hopefully they are coming!

london England, United Kingdom

Gwen, I sowed another batch a couple of weeks ago and only a few are starting to come up.

london England, United Kingdom

How are your Sunflowers doing everyone?

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Aww, gwen, give them some water and a lil fert!

Terri! Goodness girl, you are going gangbusters on yours. I have not checked our big plot, but we got rain this morning so I bet they are nice and perky now. Will have to go see!

Will report back tomorrow if possible!

Sacramento, CA(Zone 9a)

Looks like I do have a sunflower in my garden. I thought that this was one of those short decorative ones, but it is getting quite tall! Not as tall as my "other" plot in Davis. LoL.

Thanks dear, they are gonna need a fire truck tanker to water that plot. I think we are gonna need some more volunteers! They are truly soooo sad.
