SUNFLOWER CONTEST..no rules, just post yours!

(Zone 6a)

Hi Terri! Bella and Coco would like to come "visit" your sunflower patch! hahaha
BTW, I left a note in the cafe, but could I claim sunflower #22 and join the fun?
I think my Teddy Bears will have to wait till next year, I put in a few random seeds the other day so they'll have to do. Thats really stinks though that someones weeded yours out!

Oh can the flower stay on the plant for now Terri? It's going to beat out Candee and Blossoms! HAHAHAHA! Where is Candee anyways? She's giving us that shaft today.... :)

london England, United Kingdom

Candee has gone to her cabin for the weekend! Candee's Sunflower is the one at the front on the right.

Ok, I've left your Sunflower on Steven! It may get more buds.

Terri, did I already say how much I like your morning glories? Had them all the time before we moved......................I think I might start some inside.......then they'll be blooming once the weather turns chilly. They make good houseplants!

london England, United Kingdom

Thanks Steven, I love Morning Glories! They take a while to get going, but now hopefully the frame will get covered in flowers! I imagine they would be lovely inside, I don't have the space! Are you doing any other winter sowing? Blossom has Ornamental Kale seeds she's sowing and I was thinking of trying those, if I can find any.

(Zone 6a)

Oooo, what a good idea! I have some of those too! I've had them for a while but never really had a spot for them, but I think they'd look really nice in our front pots this year!
Do you know if Blossom starts them inside or out?

london England, United Kingdom

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/996881/ This is a link to Blossom's potting shed, I think she will sow them in there! I will start mine in the greenhouse and put them in the garden somewhere in Autumn. They would be nice in pots at the front too!

(Zone 6a)

Thanks, do you have seeds already? What variety are they? Mines called Osaka.

london England, United Kingdom

I haven't got any seeds yet, are yours mixed colours?

(Zone 6a)

Ya mine are mixed, I haven't grown them successfully before though.........................................probably due to my own negligence! HAHAHAHAHAHA

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Well just back from the cabin and my little sunnies are flowerin already. Can't imagine when the giants start to bloom. Hey Steven glad that Terri had one saved for you. Hey BB what do yo think of my little ones LOL!
Yours look pretty terri but think my giants might take the prize??? LOL

Last year, I had a mammoth that the center was 12 inches, but I lost my hard drive so there aren't any photos. I may have posted one on a thread. Will have to look around and see.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well haighr, I must say, they are stunning! Mine are bewildered again, they desperately need rain and are too far from the house to drag any hoses and the plot is tooo big! So it will be survival of the fittest from my neck of the woods for shure! LOL!

Ok, guys, if you head for la Desperado Cafe, there is a new lionk lurking there!

So has anyone started a kale thread????... I will do it if no one has.

Right now though I have to catch up in my GPS4

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Lilimerci, I beat yours last year by 6 inches, but I did not grow them, a fella gave the heads to us and the biggest one maxed out at 18"!

Heres the head of seeds I sowed from it for this years crop!

He actually gave us 17 heads and we just broadcasted all those seed everywhere out in a large plot in our prairie! We are hoping that they will attract some wild birds! We love the wild life!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

LOL BB did I pull your leg again?
That is a huge head 18" wow, bet that will feed a lot of birdies.
Sorry you lost your pics lil, bet you do more backups now right?

london England, United Kingdom

Nice one Candee, I was wondering where the leaves were... LoL!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

I think the leaves fell off when jack in the beanstalk climbed it and used them for steps LOL!

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

17 heads? WOW! I want to see your sunflower field. My sister in law family has a farm up in NC and one year planted the sunflower field. It was beautiful but she said there was too many bees so they did not plant them the following year.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Well, its not planted like a farm crop, we just broadcasted the seed out there!

The bees are certainly welcome around here. They have been scare and we do have a rare specie that thrives in our prairie and in the conservation land.

I am looking forward to them blooming. WE NEED RAIN! As soon as we get some rain I will take some more shots!

(Zone 6a)

Well Candee, those sure are the tallest sunnies I've ever seen! I hope Jack didn't realize he was afraid of heights when he reached the top! hahahaha

Blossom, You have the comfort of knowing 100% that your sunnies won't come in last place.....mine haven't even sprouted yet! And when they do some critter will probably eat them!

(Zone 6a)

TA DA! Here's the link for the Kale Kontest thread! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1022840/

I found a photo of one of the mammoth in my neighbor's yard.

(Zone 6a)

Oh Wow Lili! Everything in your neighbors garden is mamoth! The sunnys, the corn and is that a brug I see to the far right? Please tell your neighbor I love their yard!

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

yes, that is a golden yellow brug. I gave them a pink one this year and they moved all the lantanas to another spot because it was taking over. I think they have vincas and dahlias in their flower bed this year. But he said none of the sunflower seeds I gave him came up. I got 4 little ones out by my mailbox.

They let me plant my tomatoes over in their yard.

(Zone 6a)

Wow, was that picture from last year? Do you have many brugs? Please come share your brug pictures over on Miss Bruggies thread! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1021349/

Thats really nice that they let you grow your tomatoes in their yard!

Steven
