I have a large lawn and sometimes bag the clippings. I do not use anything other than organic fertilzer on the lawn. Can I use clippings as mulch? If so, when? Thanks!
Is it OK to use grass clippings as mulch in the garden?
Yes. You probably want to either make the layer thin 2 inches or so, or let them dry out and turn brown so they don't heat up your mulched area if applied thicker. Be careful to not let your grass going to seed before cutting or you may be picking grass out of the mulched area because of it.
When green grass clippings are piled up, they generate a lot of heat and use up nitrogen.
I put my clippings in my compost pile with other composted materials.
