Me too! Such gorgeous pictures of flowers! Are those vines? Looking for something that will flourish and give lots of color in shade. It's only about 8" worth of shade next to my shed. North side, but it's florida so sun is almost directly overhead. My bougainvillea has not given me ANY color. When I took it home from HD it promptly dropped all its color right after planting!

Hi Flowerehj

Thanks! They are clematis vines and are very very prolific. Will take much abuse. I have it in partial shade. They get sun off and on during the day. They bloom early spring here in GA. Then come back late summer.

Oh see!! There they are. All is well I can go back to work packing envies, packing envies!!

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

same here Flowerhj, I bought 2 Bougs at Lowe's and brought them home and planted them.. they soon lost all their colorful bracts. Then my neighbor told me the less care I give to them, the better they will do. he was right. I quit watering, babying them altogether and they are beginning to show some signs of color. So, lesson learned, not all plants want to be pampered, some are just plain grouchy and prefer to be left completely alone and ignored...LOL

Saint Cloud, FL(Zone 9b)

Yes, I heard that too. I haven't done anything to them for about a month now. It's growing like crazy- all green. I'm trying to get it to vine up that shed I told you about. I just tied it to some higher levels. But no color, boohoo! Any advice on the basil, anyone?Arejay?

btw LOVE the clematis. Gotta get me some!

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Put one of the little wedding bags over the flower and it will catch them for you. They are very tiny hard to see!! Or maybe you have very fine cheesecloth make a seed bag and tie it around the flower to catch the seed.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Hi Glenna
Yours are on the way.

The wedding favor drawstring bags are available at Wal mart in the craft department. Little plastic bags are available in several sizes in the bead dpartment.

HI Arejay

Cheesecloth seed bag was just the info I was looking for!! I've taken a magnifying glass to the clematis. There maybe seeds there after all. If I can get them to sprout I'll send some your way to pass along. Any suggestions to the best way? I have those little grow plugs from Parks that work well sometime.

Sherri

Flower, I was told that the blue sky vine would cover a fence or trellis in a couple months time. I'm looking for some to try. Here is a picture of a blue sky vine on a friends cover over her pond she sent me a couple days ago to show the vine. I'm wanting to make the cover for my pond and find the vine. She lives in Florida. She has helped me a lot with flowers.

Hi Seray,

My clematis vines were purchased as plants, but I've taken an interest in maybe harvesting some seed. Seed from one of the large-flowered hybrids is liable to produce all kinds of unpredictable offspring and I think it would be interesting to see what I get. The one thing that puts me off is that clematis seed can be tricky to germinate. It can take up to a year depending on the type and apparently benefits from stratification - an actual winter or a few months in the fridge to simulate winter.

Leave those spent blooms on the plant and you'll probably get some swirly fuzzy seed heads. They look very cool and I think it's really one of the features of the plant whether or not you want the seeds, so I'm not going to deadhead mine. If you want to look into it further, there's some good info on growing clematis from seed at http://www.bcollingwood.com/.

Hey, flower, I didn't make it clear, I'm sorry, wasn't wanting anything- just showing the vine if you wanted a shade vine. I thought it was pretty. Sorry, my words come out wrong sometimes.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

You guys are good I was just going to post the bcollingwood link!! This is more like it I go off for a few hours and get back and busy , busy just like bees pollinating flowers!!

NIGHT JOHN BOY!

Night Jan Girl!

Saint Cloud, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks for the tips and stuff. I went and did some major digging and planting and weeding out in the yard. I did about half of the western edge of my property. It's not that much, but it was a real mess! I'm going out of town on thursday, so just a heads up not to get worried about me :)
F

We'll miss you. Hurry back and good night maryellen.

Saint Cloud, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks Jan, you're a sweetheart. Still will check in tomorrow, though!

Hi Top,

Thanks so much for the link. I was going to hunt down the info tonight. I suspected it would need stratification. I have the dried seed heads just hard to tell the seeds from the fluff. They are very very small. Probably just put the whole lot in the fridge for a few months.

My propagation skills are still in infancy. :) I have good books and this is a great place with very knowledgeable people.

We're waiting for the word Arejay!

Sherri

My first water plant bloom. It was my old water lily. I was hoping for the lotus since the bloom coming up out of the water was so big, but it was the water lily. Here is a picture. It's pretty, but just want to see the lotus or my new water lilies bloom. I think This is the one I sent a piece to flowerejh. Hers should be this color.

Thank You Sherri, Hi Jan that is very pretty.

Santa has come thanks to Arejay!

Thank you so much for all the seed packets. I didn't have any of the varieties you sent. One I just mentioned to my DH I wanted for the front redo next year. You are so kind. Thanks to all who sent seed to share!!!!

Your lily is so delicate looking Mekos. Like a fine china cup. Will you have lots of blooms from this plant?

Sherri

Yes, I've had it for about 3-4 years and it's a hardy water lily. It spreads good. The root tubers fall out of it's pot and start on the floor of the pond. I've shared several this year and this is just the first one to bloom since I seperated it. If you would like one they over winter in the pond each year just fine. I'll seperate again later this summer, a couple months from now. Should be several new ones.

Hi Mekos

Thanks for your offer. They are beautiful but I'm limited to containers right now. When I move the garden next year I'll have space to add my water feature. Maybe we could trade then. I'd love to have one.

Sherri

Sure. Thanks to a couple nice people, I have several colors now and just waiting for my Lotus to start blooming. I want blooms, NOW. I get over-anxious, waiting. But SOON will have blooms everywhere. Some are hardy and some are tropical, when they bloom will post flowers. My tropical ,Green Smoke ,has buds coming up. It is a blue green misty color.

Oh Mindy. I am glad you are here ...I was starting to think I was all alone here!! Did you find the new thread ok?

Hi Mekos

Love to see some pictures when all your plants start to bloom. I'm lost I guess. Can't find the new thread. When I click I get this page. It's like that movie 'Groundhog Day'.

Maybe I've just been out in the sun too much today. The heat factor was 101. :) LOL

I had a hard time of getting to the new page too. I actually clicked on the thread and it took me back to the one b4 this one. ????????????

Hi Flower,

Go back to the seed trading forum and click on Arejay's June 13 reply. I think that will get you there. I posted to it after I found it but lost it again. :)

Sherri
