Great Job Jan...Keep us posted.

That last picture is the other pond and we just built that deck and started putting rocks around to build a walk way and I'm potting plants and starting water plants in a small prebuilt pond on that deck, so it looks bad right now. But after I finish hauling dirt in and mulch, and add a few more rocks in the right places, and finish putting the rest of the lattice up, I'll be happy. THEN, I'll send pictures. It's slow because I do this by myself while my husband is working and I can't do much at a time. I have to do a couple hours each morning and a couple late evening. I can't breath when it's too hot and never smoked a day in my life. Can't get in the sun much, it cooks me. Too fair skin. I go out and get pink, I get sun-poisioning with huge water blisters. And then there is arthritis-hands can't do much and really bad in my back and neck-back. Then my heart skips beats and I could go on and on, but my health is why I want to finish finding my plants, so when I can't do, I can watch. Love you all. Jan- Mekos

That's enough and hope yours doesn't go green like mine.

Thanks so much Robin! I can't wait to check the mail. And thanks to everyone who contributed so us newbies can get off and running.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

That must be why it is so satisfying Jan we we can not do we can watch, or smell, or hear the birds coming to see what we have done.

Hi Gang!! Happy June Oneth!

We're still getting local frost warnings for tonight, can you believe it? I turned all my collection of recycle pails upside down to cover my tomatoes and peppers. I still have a few flowers and perenials out but they should be okay if it's not too cold. Hope this is the last of it.

Robin, did I see where you needed petunias, somewhere? I had bunches come up from last year, LOTS of deep purple, the old fashion kind granny had. Some are pin stryped with white. They are over crouding the pot and I've been moving them a few at a time out to the pond area. Would you like some with the parrot feather while I'm sending? Don't mind at all. Let me know, or if you want you could send them on else where and share them. It's ok with me.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Jan ,
I would like to have some of your old fashion petunias with the parrot feather. I will certainly send on to someone else what I don't need.
Thank You Jan
Robin

Will be sending in the morning. Enjoy.

I have a quick question. There were seeds in my newbie envie that the name had rubbed off. They are really strange looking. They are about the size of a grape and bright orange and kind of soft. Any ideas? So I know what to expect.
Lisa

Who were they from? Do you know? Then that person may know what they are. Sorry I'm no help.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Lisa those are coontie seed.Cowboyslady sent to me in a trade. I can wait to see mine grow.here is the information about it. http://www.floridata.com/ref/Z/zam_flor.cfm

I thought Coontie was a tropical as we have it at the entrance to the condo in Cocoa Beach. It get pretty big, so better put it in a big pot.

Mekos, good job on your pond, it looks great. Now that i have seen it I am going to send you some starts of trailing plants that you can plant on the rim and let trail into the pond. i like them because they hide the black liner.

That would be GREAT. Guess what????? I FOUND the RED japanese water iris and it's on it's way to me next week. ALSO found the purple LA Iris on my want list. This has turned out to be the best day ever. Thank you so much. Mekos

Oh, Mittsy, When it has time to multiply a baby, I'm going to send you a red one for all you did for me. Thank you so much. Mekos

My bulb, corm and rhizome swap was all done by mail, not a round up. Works like a seed swap.

Mittsy, How did your Iris do in the red coloring? Show us another picture. That was cute. When I was small, we use to color the daffodills with food coloring and they were georgeous. I never would have thought of an Iris.

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

Check your thread, ( the one with the red jap. Iris picture) I posted two more pictures. Glad you found one. It will be intersting to see what the real color looks like without enhancement.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

somewhere on this site, I saw where people signed up for a 'surprise swap' one person kept track of the names of all who signed up, then randomly teamed people together. the idea was who evers name you got, you sent them a surprise plant/seeds/bulb (whatever the swap was about). Sounded like alot of fun!

That was so cool, Mittsy. I would never have thought of coloring an Iris. It turned out real good. When I was young we did Daffodills like that. That red Iris is really suppose to be that red by itself. It better be, I paid for red. I'll be upset if it's not.

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Yeah cue_chik it was fun. I got all kinds of goodies. LOL We just got thru doing a Raise My Baby swap too. Got a really nice plant from that too.
Carolyn

Hi Mekos

Your pictures inspired me. I've planted my scarlet runner beans. Is that a chalice vine next to it?

Al please send some cool weather south it was 91 in the shade today!

Cocoa Beach, FL(Zone 10a)

It was 45 here yesterday morning. Global Warming? Bring it on!

Hornell, NY(Zone 5a)

I don't mind "cool" weather, it's "cold" I worry about. We had patchy frost Monday morning, but overcast clouds and rain kept temps ups this morning so we should be safe for a while. I hope for the next three months or so.

I still have a couple of packs of Scarlet Runner Beans left after my initial offer a while back. There seems to have been a real run on these lately. If you still want to try them, write to my D-Mail box and I'll send them out while they last. Be sure to save your bean seeds harvested in the fall, this likely will be a hot item for next year's swaps and trades.

A huge THANK YOU to Robin and FlowerFantasy Carolyn! I received my envie last night. I am thrilled with the seeds I received. Robin, you are a saint for managing this and Carolyn, thanks for the heads up on this or I would not have known about it.

I have a couple of questions. One of the packets said it was 'Pink Lavetera' but I can't find a plant by that name in plant files. Any ideas? Also, is it too late in the year to start some of the cockscomb?

I have red scarlet beans, red cyprus vine, a couple maypop vines, 1 verigated cup of gold-Solandra vine, more scarlet runners. When my stictocardia vines are rooted real well, I'm going on down with the lattice wall and going to plant a couple of them also with a couple white moon flower vines I'm sprouting. Also planning white cyprus vine in there somewhere. I want a good thick shade for the pond plants from the hot evening sun. On down a little I have a white Bird of Paradise, Scuppernong vine a couple red castor bean plants and a red oleander and a pink oleander plant all straight down the fence line. I'm excited about all the pretty color it will have. I still have a lot of work to do, but it's coming.
