I've planted a large garden at my mother's with lots of different types of flowers. I had a company come out and re-trench, spread top soil and mulch before I planted. I've noticed that several of my flowers (dahlias, red superbells, squash, zuchinni, and cucumber leaves) are losing their color. The I had bright fuchia starsister dahlia's and they are now completely white. I'm not sure what is causing this. Could the ph be off because of the mulch? Any idea how to fix the problem?
Garden flowers losing color.
Is it possibly just getting bleached in the sun?
Crackerlady I agree. My neighbors Dihlias are doing the same thing. Hot pink fading out to white, all on the same plants. Just think of it as natures air-brush paint job. Hey it kind of looks cool on 18 plants in a bed with other flowers.
:D My mums are doing the same. They're supposed to be nice bright red with yellow centers. Good luck! They're now a fancy faded orange instead. :( Oh well, I'm sure no one will know the difference but me. :D
I've had that happen with things that were newly planted--not sure if it's the stress of planting or that they're not used to quite that much sun, but when I've had it happen, once the plant gets established and puts out new flowers they've typically been the color they were supposed to be.
