WESTERN HUMMINGBIRDS VOL 3
Dirt, how do you get that wonderful delphinium to grow around here? Mine are whimpy and don't seem to want to come back......of course, I don't have a lot of sun or heat...............Great pics.
Howdy MtnGirl,
Cuz of the lousy winter last year, lost most of mine.
This delphinium had a ground cover over it and south west
shelter by a rhoderdendren and did it all by itself.
Foxgloves went crazy and are in the background.
Had fun with the hummers today, have a nice weekend.
Very nice pics dirt! Love the Rufous and the Delphinium!
Great shots duc! Would you mind sharing the camera settings with us?
Beautiful shots of all the Hummers...I am most envious of the flower shots...or should I say my dream shots!
Duc...that last shot is just super!
No problem Pelle. F5.6, ISO-200, Exposure time 1/250, Focal length 210mm. I'm still learning, so if you need more, let me know.
That last one is so cute duc!
O Dirt, that cup is priceless. Hope you have some sugar water in there, I'm sure they'll love it and we'll all love the photo!!
What cracks me up is when they come to the window to tell me the feeder is empty. They face the window and just hover there - go back to the feeder, back to the window. 'See, see? It's empty!'
This morning, not to be out done, the anna 'king' shows
up and takes his place on the wire, after a couple of
chases and hide and seek. Usually he's now way up
in the brambles and blackberries pursuing and claiming
territory. Tough to get a pic out back.
(proof reader needed, not undone, dummy, its out done)

Nice shots dirt and duc! Those Rufous are so beautiful!
Dirt, I love the one of the Rufous bullet - very unusual!
I was wishing my Rufous hummers would return and yesterday afternoon, look what I found when I was looking out the window! Just one for now
Interesting, according to the map in Sibley, you should have Allen's, not Rufous. But those are excellent photos for showing the diagnostic tail feather shapes, and it's a definite Rufous. Maybe the map in Sibley needs revising. Oh, and please add those pics to BirdFiles, it'll be hard to get a better educational pic than those for demonstrating the tail! Yesterday while in the shed taking pictures of the baby cardinal in the backyard out of nowhere I saw this object that I thought was a dragon fly but quickly realized it was a humming bird. Sadly I had just removed the feeder to clean it up and store it because I didn't think I had any takers. The funny thing though is the hummer flew around the area where the feeder was located as if it knew the feeder was there and then it sat on the wire where I had the feeder hanging. I got a picture but not a good one because it was getting dark.
Do you think the humming bird will come back?
My first humming bird in the yard ever...woohoo
Thanks
I've added them to the files Resin, sorry they weren't the best of photos.
Meth, keep your sugar water fresh and it will return. Happy you finally got one, enjoy it!
Wow duc, see them doing that all the time and never ready
to get the shot, it would be a blurrrr anyway, just wanna get it
once. And need rain, we up here in rain country haven't seen rain in 29 days!
I am going to have one big water bill.
Kaper-- isn't that interesting like it was gliding like those
kamakazi parachute guys sideways.
Thanks Pelle, did you get any of that snow like hail I saw on the news?
Cute pic of a Rufuos, now is it a boy or a girl?, I don't know,
just like to have them around.
