geez, Adel those are very nice pics.

Did you ever hear of people hanging their dryer lint out next to the feeder
and the hummers get it and use it for their nests?
I didn't know that and just want to hear from those more experienced
if that is a good idea. Goodness knows, with all the lint I threw away,
these hummers could build condos.

Marlton, NJ

Hi Guys, Dryer lint is not a good idea for any bird nest. It does not dry after become wet and can kill young nestlings.

PERTH, Australia

Absolutely correct, Pelle.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Cattails! After seeing tigerlily's pictures last year of hummingbirds taking cat tail fluff, that's what I put out. Now if I only had any takers around, I'm sure they'd be happy.

Clinton, MD(Zone 7a)

Sure wish I had some hummers. The old shots I've ever gotten is when I was San Diego, CA this past winter

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

wish i had some too! :( whine whine whine

No. San Diego Co., CA(Zone 10b)

Glad to know about the lint. I stopped putting it out when I saw it after a rain.

Dog hair is good, though, isn't it? We once had neighbors with a white long-haired dog and used to see that in finch nests - it was easy to spot!

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Yep, dog hair is excellent. If it is very long, snip it in half.

Don't put out dog bark though, that isn't so good, tends to scare birds off.

How about bird dog bark???

*groan*

:-)

Ah, yes, the birds anxiously await my schnauzer's first real haircut of the spring. I let her hair grow in the winter so she is more protected from the cold, but do her first cut on the front deck in the warmer weather. It is fun to watch the birds gather her fine fur.
