I had several volunteer squash plants come up from my compost which I deposited last fall. The plants are beautiful, strong and healthy. However, when the baby squashes are about an inch or two long they will shrivel up and die. There are no bugs etc, and the rest of the plant is gorgeous. Whats up?

They are not being pollinated yet.
I agree you may have to self polinate
thanks, folks for the suggestion to self pollinate. Here I go, with artists brush in hand to attempt what the bees do naturally.
