Good eye, Twincol. I was wondering if anyone would notice his tongue sticking out. Seems to be a theme. Or maybe he really was saying good night! LOL!

Hummingbird Adventures #9
Wonderful pics, SW!!
It makes me chuckle to see their little legs and feet tucked under the feathers in their bellies. Hmmm, makes me wonder if such behavior is unique to hummies or other species do the same thing. Does anyone have any idea?
Linda
They do when they fly Linda. It has to do with aerodynamics, and I think most birds who fly vs. glide regularly do tuck in their legs and feet when flying.
I'll be posting some more photos later.

SW, it's so nice to see that the gang is back to their usual antics! Linda, great to see one of your little visitors :-). I think the eggs hatched! I've been madly planting etc. and having gotten on here recently, but here is a pic from the 21st. Doesn't that look like baby hummer poop to the left of the nest?
edited because apparently I don't know my left from my right. LOL

Sunny, I'd guess that what we're seeing is poop too. Love your photo. I've said this before, but you're so fortunate to be able to watch the hummer nest. I hope there are two babies in there.
SW, your babies are so cute. Such personality. I'm not sure my hummers are friendlier than yours are. It may be that they get used to me standing or sitting close to their feeders. I also talk to them a lot.
Sorry no photos today. We got me a new laptop computer (guess hubbie wanted to claim his back) and he's been having all kinds of trouble trying to get everything set up for me.
LOL! No worries. I don't have any I have the energy to post tonight. For some reason, I forgot to take photos this afternoon when the light was good. Ooops!
Will share a quick story about the Black-Chinned Hummers (BCH). I was out front looking at the B.fly/h.bird garden when one of the male BCH kept flying to a stick poking out of the Honeybird bush (Tecoma stans), then it would fly over to the B.fly bush. He and I believe his mate were quite interested in my hand watering so I did something I shouldn't have done. I moved the bird bath by myself. I hope the dogs don't knock it over. Between the fountain in the courtyard and the birdbath, hopefully I'll be getting some photos of hummers playing. That one BCH, sure didn't want to let his mate get to close to the water. LOL! I see my chiropractor tomorrow for my tune-up. I'll be fine.
By the way, I have the same problem sometimes with my left and right hands. Don't feel bad. You aren't alone.

Looks like you can see one pretty good and the wing of another. Beauty surrounds us. I can't tell you how tickled I am that you even managed this good a photo. Don't risk life or limb taking the photos though!
Good Job, sunnyg! ^_^

Sunny, great job on the baby photo. SW is right, please don't get hurt!
SW, your photos are great! My favorite is the one from 7:24 which shows the wing. Nice work! It's really tough to catch them just right.
duc,
Did ya notice you can see his little eyeball through the feather? Cool, huh!

I finally saw who is draining the nectar!! Cute little one, but very shy. I'll have to let it get to know me so I can take a picture. I can see it through the window, but when I open the door, it's gone in a flash!
Sally,
At least you know who is raiding the feeder. My son had some friends over last night. One had never been here before. You know he was so surprised to see a hummer in the gh. I need to get some more photos today, but mundania intervened. But I did get some more orchids at $5 a pot. ^_^
I am hoping to get things arranged so I can move at least some of the orchids out to the gh. I wonder what the hummers will make of them.
While at the thrift store this morning I found a couple of plant stands, and a couple of hummingbird feeders. One is so fancy it has clear glass and glass insects on it. I may have to get a replacement part for the other one which is missing the spigot. I guess I'll be checking on ebay for those and for wasp guards.
If anyone know a source, please let me know!
Thanks and congrats on seeing your shy/stealthy visitor, Sally.

Thanks SW, orchids for $5? What kind did you find? Orchids always make my ears perk up.
Yep, no doubt, two beaks. You're getting some excellant shots.
Mom came down and fed the babies. This is the first time I've seen her feed them, so was quite excited. I took pics, but it was just too dark (and I don't know how to use my camera). Imagine, if you will, that there is a mom feeding here babies in this photo (I swear). The white spot is her eye, if that helps ;-).
Awwww. She's not that hard to see. Most of the web cams I've seen the only thing you can see at night is the white of their eye. LOL
Looks like he's trying camouflage. LOL
