Water/Moisture Sensors... Anyone remember....????

Does anyone remember the water sensors made by either Jobe's or Scotts/Miracle-gro They were about 2 inches tall and you put them into the soil of the container, they had a picture of a watering can and when the plant was properly watered the watering can and the the drops were green, when the plant needed watering they were yellow.

Anyone remember these? Do they still make these? If so does anyone know of a website where I can purchase them?

I have tried already Walgreens, Rite Aid (this is where I bought them before), Walmart, Home Depot and Lowes.


I am thinking with all the new digital sensors they just dont make these anymore.

I don't know about those specific ones with the pictures, but there are plenty of non-digital moisture meters out there, they have a scale telling you about how wet the soil is, and they usually come with a little booklet that tells you at what point on the scale certain plants would need to be watered (this is better than the picture based one you're talking about because not all plants want the same level of moisture). Personally I trust my finger over the meters, but I don't think you would have any trouble finding ones like this--I see them at Home Depot, Lowes, OSH or you can order online if you can't find it locally (but I'd be surprised if you can't find one locally)

Thanks ecrane3 for your replay, but I am looking specifically for these water sensors. As many stores as I have been to in the last week of course I have come across many different moisture sensors. But I specifically need these that I have mentioned.

I have friends sister addicted to trying not to kill her plants as well. Unfortunately she is developmentally delayed and I feel that these old trusty standbys would be better for her to comprehend.


If they arent still being sold, I am sure someone has a packet or two still in their house or garage just as I have at least 2 packs buried here somewhere. ( just cant get my hands on them right now)

In that case then I think you're right about getting the sort with the pictures. You might try browsing around online--I've never seen anything like that in stores, but you can find a lot of things online that you won't find in local stores. I have also seen some things online that change color or blink or make noise when the plant needs water so if you can't find the exact one you're thinking of maybe one of those would work. There are also these terracota worms you can get from Home Depot I think they are called "Wormie" and you put those in the pots and it shows if the plants need watered
