Great photos, Becky!

The LYK cross is so different, at least to this MG newbie; beautiful!

Dany and Colin - Diluted Fuji no Muraski is one of my favorites. It did seem to be producing pollen early on, but now ... I don't know. Not so much pollen. I, too, am hoping this beauty gives me plenty of seeds to share with you and others. Fingers crossed. I have a couple more seeds to grow out if it doesn't. I WILL get seeds ... eventually! LOL!

Dany - My Matsukaze blooms are rather large. About 4", sometimes 5". They tend to flop over, if not facing upward. A lot of stripe variations. Such a vivid blue on those bad boys! :-)

Colin - I LOVE my Pink Porcelain Blizzard vine. Honestly, that one I grew a couple years ago and the blizzard pattern showed up last year. The color is really soft and old english garden style. I absolutely love it. It has been putting on quite a show for me this season. I should get plenty of seeds from it, too. I will certainly share with you! The Hein no Hikari is a very pale color. When the sun is shining on it, it almost looks like a solid pale lavender color. I only see the stripes when it's in shade or before the sun hits it. Hopefully will get seeds from it too. :-) I know where you live (I have your address), so expect to get some! LOL!

Dany - I haven't grown out the seeds you sent me from the mixed MGs that you purchased and split up and shared with me. I will be growing them out next. I wanted to wait until this "crop" of MGs were done because there are so many, that I don't want to overlook or neglect any from being overwhelmed. I have my limit that I can grow at one time. I've reached it right now. When they all die ... which will be in another month, I will start the new ones. :-) I get at least two grow-outs per year. Sometimes three, but I don't consider it a full grow-out unless I get seeds from each grow-out. If I plant too late in the Fall, the vines don't produce seeds. :-( Too cold, I guess.

Debra - China Doll got chewed (rodent) and only produced a couple of blooms. But fortunately, it grew a new vine sprout from the middle of the plant and is now climbing around the picket fence. I love how these plants improvise to survive. Hopefully, I will get seeds. So if you need some, I will share when I collect the seeds. Or do you have one growing now?

BostonArea - Thanks! The LYK (Lady Yaguruma Kaleidoscope) is a great vine for crossing because it rarely produces pollen for me. So I cross it with whatever is blooming in my yard! LOL! One mother vine, many daddies! LOL!

The photos of the LYK are from different vines (seeds), so that is why so many different looking blooms. The flowers are smaller (3"- 4"), but it often will bloom profusely near the end of it's life cycle. And if the crosses take, it gives me lots of seeds. I never know what I am going to get when I grow the seeds! It's one of my fun experiments growing a particular MG strain. :-) It's my Frankenstein vine. ;-) Unfortunately, when I get a bloom I really find unique and love, it's rare that I can hand-pollinate it to reproduce that exact vine again. No pollen. But I still try to and tag those blooms. Most of the blooms fall off and no seed pods form. Which is such a bummer!

Dany - You are right! It is supposed to be spelled Murasaki! (Of course, Japanese spelling!) My bad!

Becky, I'm surprised you don't have busloads of japanese MG/JMG experts and tourists pulling up to your house to see the interesting crosses you've created, lol!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I agree with boston.. I am on that buss.. I need a cross.. one you can name even..

Thanks BostonArea and Debra! I've had more than one person say that to me. I've got so much more growing in my yard than just MGs! But I want much, much more yard dedicated to plants and garden beds. :-)

I am going to add another thread as this one is getting too long for some folks to load. Please go here for the next thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1000386/
