Tulip Tree Question...

Milford, OH

I have a neighbor that has what he calls a "Tulip Tree". Beautiful white/pink/purple flowers 2 blooms a year.
For 5 years I have called it a Tulip tree...I finally decide to buy one and the only thing I can find in Ohio or Online are "Tulip Poplars" white bark, yellow flowers. Could it be a Saucer Magnolia? Am I losing my mind? ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
John

I picture would help;-)

It could be a magnolia, I've heard those referred to as tulip tree on occasion. A picture would definitely help though--there are a ton of different kinds of magnolias, plus who knows what other tree someone might have decided to call tulip tree, could be something else completely!

There's a good possibility it's a saucer magnolia. Down here many of us are guilty of referring to them as tulip trees :-}

I call mine a tulip tree but it is from the Magnolia family.

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

You are definitely describing a magnolia of some sort. Show us a picture of the plant, and we'll be able to tell whether it is a saucer magnolia, or one of the Little Girl hybrids, or possibly another.

Your neighbor does NOT have a tulip poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera) as you've discovered.

Those pesky common names...
