It's a good thing that Joanne told you about it, eh?
~Susan~
WOW .. looks as though you all had a great time ... congrats on your RU ^_^
I'm planning one for Thunder Bay .. gonna be easy too .. take myself to Tim Hortons along with a gardening magazine and spend a half hour reading !!!!
~M~
lol! Actually that sounds nice too.
Roflmfbo, Marilyn!!
Looks like grand time at the Cowtown RU!!!! Hope we do it again next year so I can come!
That would be Awesome if you came, too!
Maybe next year, I'll take a proper vacation and be able to do more about the RU ^_^
~Susan~
I think we need a break from a Calgary roundup - it has been 3 yrs in a row!
Carol, if you are tired of those Calgarians, come to Manitoba for a visit.
Looks like you cowgirls had a great time. I would have loved to have been there and met you all and just to see Joanne's garden.
I think it would be great to have the next Round-up in another Alberta location. I think there quite few of DG'rs in Edmonton.
Echoes, if you are ever in Calgary, you will have lots of beautiful gardens to check out.

I think it would be great to have an Edmonton RU! (or Lethbridge, or Red Deer - any DG'ers there?)
~Susan~
Thought you checked that out & invited all the DG Albertans to the last one?
I did, but perhaps it would be more agreeable to not have to travel. I didn't hear from a lot of the ones I emailed.
I figured if I posted it, perhaps someone might think it's a good idea to have it in their city. It was really just a "call" to those who might need a "nudge" to have a RU in their city lol
I really wasn't going to go through the whole list to see who was in what city, and my CRS wouldn't allow me to remember who was where lol
There are only 17 paid subscribers in all of AB. There locations are given in the Members list, search for Alberta and show only subscribers. My mistake, I thought that's what you did.
Oh well, the 2009 is a past event and we will see what comes up for a Round-Up in 2010.
no, it was suggested I send to all of AB DG'ers, whether they're subscribers or not.
Anyway, as you say, 2009 RU is past, and was an unqualified success!
Thanks again for hosting it, Joanne!
I just can't believe the change from the last time I was there, when you had the trampoline, etc! I know a lot of people pull grass out, but I grew grass this year, and I gotta tell ya - Love the Grass (and I'm glad I took all the pics I did! Your flowers are astounding!)
Where did you get the Pinata Rose? I love the way it changes colour, and it's a great size!
**note to self - take care of tender roses, and bring in dahlias, so I can have a rose & dahlia garden next year lol
Susan,
Thanks for organizing the event and the nice comments about my garden. The Pinata rose was from greengate garden centre a couple of years ago. This is a good time to buy roses since most will be on sale now. I mound the tender roses in October/November. But if you are going to buy a new rose plant it in and now and mound the peat moss later.
I called Green Acres, and they said that this was a bad time to buy roses, but I've been doing it anyway - bought an explorer rose, and 4 carpet roses (I'll def have to cover them in peat moss!)
Thanks for the suggestion re: peat moss vs straw. I would have automatically picked straw if it weren't for your suggestion. I'm sure it's in abundance, and I'll get some in Sept ^_^
I have a lot of tender roses to mound, and I'm going to check Dahlianut's article in the Calgary Hort mag to remind myself how to keep dahlias overwinter.
btw - any tender rose should be well watered before I use peat, right?
I'll call Greengate and see if they have any Pinata roses left.... I have a perfect spot for it!
I wish I could show Marlene & Wilma your garden. They'd want theirs to be like yours, I'm sure. I've planted a lot of the flowers I got at the RU & the dats that were left, in their berm (large, huge, long berm!). Oh, and I got wasp stung for my efforts, on Sat night lol Guess the wasps didn't like me sticking a pitchfork in their home lol it was the root of a large bush my DH cut off with his saw.... they must have a large nest there. I bought some Exterminator foam........ I'm deadly with foam, for wasps LOL
I'll have to post pics of their yard........
Sorry to have missed the roundup. I was playing two weddings and the second was at the
Ranche in Fish Creek Park. I planned to pop in but the first wedding went overtime and I was afraid of being late to the second. Hope you all had a great time.
We did, thanks
We missed you, Theresa, but hope you had a good time playing @ the weddings!
btw - I don't believe I've ever heard a viola. Do you know where I can find a recording, or something?
Violann was telling us about a young lady in her family playing a concert, and I was thinking that I don't know if I've ever heard a viola playing all on it's own.......
~Susan~
Great garden, great food and great company. So glad you all had a nice Round-up. Thanks for posting the all the pics so we can get a sense of the day and to fit names to faces.
Sandy
Susan - for viola music, go to http://www.scottslapin.com/
He used to have sound clips right on the web site. Try the link for CDs. If nothing else, there are a bunch of links to YouTube videos of hims playing. He's a top notch violist (as is his wife).
