Hi all!
We just had a frost advisory LAST night, and I brought all the plants in (again). It looks like it's going to warm up soon. Next week there's a low predicted of 49 F. Of course, they could be wrong.
Do you think I'm safe to plant my plants now? They're all in pots btwn 2.5-3.5" big. I'm at least going to plant a couple of particular ones, because they're starting to not do so well.
Peace,
Carrie Anne
Is it too early to plant my native plants yet? (Mpls, MN)
I am some what south of you and we are about to go thru a cool spell. Lows in the 40s and highs in the 60s. As long as the soil can be worked easily and these are native plants in your area I would have no problem planting them. Keeping in mind the plant preferences and having items availible to deal with a frost if need be ie. buckets or pots to place over the plants or even old blankets you can form a tent over the plants with. As these new plantings will be dealing with transplant stress frost would not help matters. If I am incorrect I am positive someone will be happy to inform you of a good target date.
Man where we live it is almost too late to plant stuff until fall. It was 100 degrees and our plants do not like to go in ground in the hot season.
It so does depend on your zone, but natives are hardy, if they are native to your area. They are probably just coming out of their dormancy, themselves.
