Gulf Coast blooms # 3 2009
I started my seeds in january and they all bloomed indoors I have kept them all short about 7 inches tall so they are now ready to transplant outdoors since last night was our last cold night and warmer weather is forcasted and some rain for the next few days to help them root hope to have lots more blooms by next month will post them as they come

Incredible Blue Blizzard indeed.
what great flowers so pretty compare to the old ones we use to get
mine did bloom much since I kept them short but now that they will be outside and able to climb they should do better with more blooms
I have been growing moonflowers and morning glories for years since I love the vertidal look of them at the back of the garden and it covers fences which to me are eye sores
Let me see if I can answer your question if not someone else I hope can. My vines don't last all year b/c we get a few frosts late fall & winter. They might be considered invasive by being reseeders. I have quite a few vines coming up now after it having rained here quite a bit lately. Since I started my vines early some have produced lots of seeds and are not making flowers now as much so they might not last too long especially b/c it will get very hot here in the summer. The I. purpureas I think are considered to be more invasive and reseeders in warm climate areas. I think I'mgoing to let mine growout just to see what I get blooming from them.
I usually dont let mine seed for the first couple of months of blooms and then as the season is getting shorter I allow seeds to collect for the next year and they do seem to keep blooming more when I dead head them just like all the other annuals and perennials
Helena - This one is outstanding! http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6603647
I'd love some seeds if you get enough. And also some of the SOH. I love yours!!! Mine has a white throat, so it's not as "true" as yours! I love your Blue Blizzard bloom, too! Gosh! All of them are so pretty!
Mona - You got some rockin' beauts too! I think invasive means that they produce lots of seeds which become volunteers and will over-run an area with vines. Which happens here if I am not looking. I am constantly pulling up volunteers from my MGs and from my 4 O'Clocks. :-) Not always a good thing if you are growing other plants in the same area. Mine also cover some of my fencing to really make my yard look more "jungle" like! :-) I love lots of color and lots of green foliage everywhere!
Thanks Becky, that one is turning out some nice blooms. I'll put you down for seeds from it & SOH which has produced lots of seeds on the first vine. I probably should give a few of the vines some bloom booster to keep them flowering!
in my zone I dont really worry about stuff being invasive just the dandylions that are taking over my front lawn lol since they banned all the stuff to get rid of them and out in the countryside you cant control what grows in the fields so its a loosing battle against the weeds I use lots of mulch and do my best
