Garden Pics: April shows brought these May flowers #5!!!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Sally, those are beautiful!!!

Julie, I am just getting bud on my Iris.....also fighting the Battle of the Slugs.....I hate those things.....why do we have to have the German Brown Slug......why can't we have big pretty colored Banana Slugs???

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Oh, a new thread!
So nice to get a beautiful day today! Makes up for the crazy cold week otherwise (Which of course was right after I took the rest of my plants out of the garage...)

I've never heard of a Toona tree before-those are really interesting. Do they stay that pink?

Pretty rhody pix, and that Lewisia is beautiful. I"ll have to post a picture of a couple of my rhody's to see if any of you can help me ID them. I have no idea what cultivars they are and a couple of you are really good at identifying them.

Sharon, that's not a Heuchera. It's a Saxifrage. Saxifraga fortunei 'silver velvet'. I got one from Heidi last year and I really like it. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/193320/

Willow, so sorry to hear about your toe-hope you're feeling better now. :)

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Trisha, I am convinced that the "Battle of the Slugs" as you call it is a no win situation! Wouldn't you love to get your hands on the importers who sent those slimy little devils to our area? I chat with some people on the east coast on another forum, and they just don't get the slug thing. Their slugs are these teeny little buggers that just put tiny holes in leaves...never totally decimate a plant. When I told them that I see several slugs in my yard that are around three inches long, it totally freaked them out!

Eugene, OR

If it's not the slugs it's the snails. Was coming home the other night late and heard a familar CRUNCH as I was walking to the house. Laughed all the way to the door. ♪♪ And another one bites the dust ♪♪

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Yes, could do without them...
Well, going to call it a night.....have a good night all and a wonderful sunny tomorrow!

RJ & Sally.. I will take the tiny ones over this monster I spotted last year at the Oregon Gardens.
I would rather not have any..but if I had to choose it's a no brainer!.

Willow.... Ouch! sorry to hear about your foot. That's not good at all. hopefully it won't last all that long.

Bea.... I fully believe that I will be entertained by the anemones for every moment that they are in bloom for years to come!! Thanks so much for intruducing me to them!! Great Lewisia.

RJ.... I've never met a garden that stays weed free for me than a day!!! just a garden where the weeds are shorter than the plants! At least you got through your first "round" in pretty good time! I will do a search under both it's past a present real names to see what I can see. I purchased mine from Greer Gardens during a year when they were cheap. Some years they have good luck in propogating theirs and then they are fairly reasonable. Other years they have a very low success rate and the turkeys become very expensive. And I do know that Greers has them in stock, so you might call them. And they do mail order! I was told that it was an oversight that they were left off of the website and catalog since I went looking for one for a landscaping project that I was working on.

Thanks Sally! Lovely pics yourself! Beautiful iris's and your yard is in great shape!

Susybell.... I'm glad that you caught up to us! Many haven't heard of Toona tree! Its' green form is native to New Zealand or someplace like that. And it's just a plain, boring green tree/shrub. The one that is named 'Flamingo' is the one that comes out with this bright pink color! It slowly fades to whitish pink and then green as it gets into summer. Its' name is Toona tree because it's full botanical name is/was
Toona Sinensis 'Flamingo'. However it has recently been changed to Cedrela Sinensis 'Flamingo'. But 'Toona Tree' just has a much more interesting ring to it than Cedrela!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Actually Susybell.... I just read that it has been moved back into the Toona family. So, once again, the name of the tree really is Toona Sinensis Flamingo!!

google search for Cedrella: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=cedrela+sinensis+flamingo

for Toona: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Toona+sinensis+flamingo&btnG=Search

I know for certain that Greer Gardens (as I mentioned, you'll have to call them to track it down) has it and I'm fairly certain that Forest Farms does as well, if they are not out of them.

Bea.... that picture is...well..... it just is. lol

Bea....that thing actually looks like it has a personality. Mine are just plain old blobs that eat a lot.

I thought I had a head start on the weeds too! Think I just made room for more to move in. LOL

Thanks everyone!

Oh, that's nice!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Thanks. I love that leaf! I didn't think that anyone else would be up this late. Hopefully you're just up doing stuff and not up not being able to sleep.

Eugene, OR

Been stressed out. Playing games helps. Ready for bed now.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

ahhh.... I agree completely. Well, I certainly hope that you're less stressed now. hopefully tomorrow will be a better day!

Good night.

White Anemone. These have a deep purple center with lots of purple pollen.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Ohhhh..... that's pretty too! I really like it. I think that the white one, that came as a surprise plant with one of the purple ones, just had white anthers and anthers. The combination on yours is very striking.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

red. How is the toe today? Hope its feeling better. *

Union, WA(Zone 8b)

Beautiful pictures as always.

My toe and part of my foot if black and blue and swollen but as long as I wear a stiff bottomed slipper it doesn't hurt. Back outside tomorrow.^_^

All my rhodies are a-poppin'

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

Don't over do it! .. pictures please of the Rhodies when you are up to it. Slippers and gardening..sounds good to me. Slippers are next in line for best shoes next to crocks. Who needs Prada heels when you can have crocks! Jimmy Choo who?

Guess I could pull out my heels and airate the lawn and get some use out of them!!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

You guys!!! Your pics make me want to go hide my camera....that Leaf is fabulous!!!

Iris can't find the tagus. The purple on this one is so wonderful.

Nice Iris, mine are just budding-up. Same with my columbine. Should be soon.

I will probably wear the crocs tomorrow when I go out. They are roomy and stiff on the bottom. Love them. The only heels I have now are two pairs of dancing shoes that I love but never wear anymore. Threw the rest out years ago. Don't own a dress anymore either, or nylons. It's nice to be retired.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

I have a closet full of work clothes that I hope to never wear again. My daughters colleges may change that however. Dread! I don't know why I am keeping them. With no stress from work, I have gained back some much need weight since moving to Oregon. None of them will fit I am sure! Size 4 ha .ha.ha!
Not any more!

These three yellow tulips are very pretty but were listing left real bad. So to fix the problem I just angled my camera to make them appear to be growing up straight!

Can't seem to get a good picture of this columbine. I have tried at all hours of the day with different lighting. This is the leprechuan variety with the beautiful varigated foliage and the blooms are a deep royal purple. Will keep trying because it is so pretty!

I have such a huge collection of work clothes and shoes but now I resent even having to get my fingernails clean to go out to dinner! I love my Levis and Reefs!

That Jacobs Ladder is so sweet.

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Redchic, Thanks for the heads up on Greer...they do have the Toona trees...now I just have to convince myself that I want to spend that much $$ to mail-order something... it's one thing to be able to touch and feel in a nursery ..but sight unseen...mulling it over.... Love the pics, especially the leaf. Such colors!

Bea, That Jacobs Ladder is just awesome. Have been looking for it in my travels, but haven't come across it yet. Love the iris too! The unknown one is sure a stunner!

Willow, Glad you are at least able to hobble around! Hope your foot heals quickly!

Just couldn't resist this at the Fred Meyer's founders day sale. $10 for the flat....
