Crimison King Maple.

I have a cherry tree planted about 10 feet from Crimison King Maple. Will the Norway Maple toxin effect it and flower bed 10 feet away. The toxin I am talking about is the one that keeps other trees from sprouting around it and keeps other trees from growing or does it hurt trees thats allready growing. Or does the Crimison King not have the toxin. Will the grass grow around it okay.

While waiting for my DH in the store yesterday, I was watching a man mow his yard. His large Crimson King had lots of grass growing under it. I've only heard about the toxins in Walnut trees. Some hybrid maples have roots that grow near the surface. They can cause loss of grass. I think these trees are mostly hybrids of Silver Maple. I have several Sugar Maples and a Red Maple that haven't effected the grass.

Pastime: you are correct about the silver maple and the roots being close to surface, Dad had one and it made mowing easy. No grass under it till about 8 or 10 feet from trunk. The only thing I've ever gotten to grow under walnut trees is day lillies. Stell a da' ora did the best. As for the crimson king I'm not sure it releases any toxins. Walnut I was told releases tannin.

Thankyou.
