Becky's MGs Part 3

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Ron is right ... I need a new thread. I came from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/983478/

And away we go ...

To start this one off I just had to post a photo of my White Kikyo vine. You can see the tiny sugar ants marching across the petals. This bloom is so beautiful!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

And speaking of white ...

Can you guess what this bloom is?

Thumbnail by beckygardener
(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Here's another photo of the vine showing 3 white blooms. Look at the leaves ... can you guess?

Thumbnail by beckygardener
(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Here is the answer ... Do you know what this vine is now?

I must confess...

This is the first time ever that the blooms have turned white. They have always turned pink for me as the morning turned to afternoon. I have no idea what made them turn white this afternoon. This was at 5 pm. Pretty cool, huh? Oh by the way, they are Blue Star I. tricolor blooms.

Another almost white ... actually pale lavender color ... Hein no Hikari.

Can the sugar ants pollinate these blooms? Or are they too small of creatures?

Thumbnail by beckygardener
(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Pink and White flaked I. purpurea which is labeled Carnevale di Venezia.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Now to change up to a different bloom color. This is such a vivid blizzard pattern and color. Blooms are smaller, but sure make up for the size by the eye-popping pattern. Purple Blizzard...

Since I am on the Purple theme ... Here is my last Clematis to introduce. This is probably the most common grown Clematis ... Jackmanii. Truly a striking deep purple color!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

This vine is from a seed from Dany labeled "Hama no Haru". Apparently a cross. Unusual color of blooms.

Thumbnail by beckygardener
(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

This almost looks like "Mrs." Fuji no Monet ... in the pink version instead of purple. It is actually a cross of LYK. Not sure of the other vine that gave up the pollen to create this beauty...

My volunteer Hanafubuki. Looks like the tiny ants were having a field day on all my blooms today!

And lastly ... my Pipevine. Loved the leaves on this plant...

Beautiful! Love that Hanafubuki, it is just gorgeous.

Becky - The excellent photo of the Pink Flaked

(that came out of the carnival mix) deserves a devoted place for a Pink Flaked in the PlantFiles here

The 'hama no haru' posted here

does doesn't seem to match the packet pictorial or the others in the PlantFiles entry here

It does look like the "Hattie Bell" here

Thanks Cathy! I have had ZERO luck getting any blooms to pollinate. I had the same problem last year. I just don't get it! I've tried everything. I even tried crossing it with some Fuji no Monet pollen. It didn't take. So I am beyond frustrated.

Ron - Is it possible that some I. nils are just prone to being sterile. I even added beneficial microbe mix to it also along with compost. I'm at a total loss ...

Ron - The 'hama no haru' bloom/vine I am currently growing is a dead-ringer for Hattie Bell. I don't know if Dany had Hattie Bell seeds that he might have shared with me, but I think you have found the correct cultivar for mine. Thanks! It is a really pretty vine and bloom!

Speaking of which ... has anyone heard from Dany lately? I bet he is overwhelmed with all those JMG seedlings! I hope he posts soon and gives us an update! :-)

I will post the Pink Faked photo in plantfiles later today if I don't forget. It's good that we are adding photos to some of the plantfiles that don't have any or just a few photos. It is a good resource that I use a lot!

i was wondering where Dany is too Becky.... hope he's ok

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I thought I saw Dany post in another thread the other day.... that Hattie Bell flower looks like the one I had and now have seeds for, and those were in a pack named something else.. now I can rename them correctly.. I love your clematis, Becky, I especially like that Jackmanii

szarvas, Hungary

Hi All,
I still a live !!!
Becky, yes it's probably Hattie Bell not Hama no Haru
But when I see the Onalee collection of Japanese seeds packs, there is a different btw Hama no Haru ( one ton pink medium size flower - Spring Beach) and Heian no Haru ( larger bloom - Ping Spring ) .For me on PlantFiles it's Heian no Haru .
How to rename MG on PlantFiles ? we can make a thread on this topic !!!! BIG BIG JOB

Yes I 've a lot of different seedlings - I make groups :
Bakker Street, Dave's Garden Boulevard, Japanese Lane and I hope, soon it will be Kyushu Corner !

No rain since 2 mounth ( summer before summer , 77 °F - hard sun and wind )
I've a really big problem with the outdoor transplantation.

Thanks Debra! I love my new Clematis vines, too! The blooms are quite stunning! I've been told that each year the vines will spread more on my trellis and fence until they finally cover it with tons of blooms! I am looking forward to that day!!! :-) The really amazing thing about the blooms is that they start off small and each day for almost 4-5 days continue to get larger and stay blooming all day and night long! :-)

Hi Dany! Glad to hear that you are climbing out from under your JMGs and had the time to post. I like your group names for your morning glories! That's one way to keep them straight by where you got the seeds! :-)

We have drought conditions here where I live. We finally got some rain a day ago. The plants always look so much greener after a good rain. We need that kind of rain every afternoon for a few weeks since it is so dry here. Sorry to hear that transplanting your MGs outdoors is a real problem. I hope you get some rain soon, too!

On a good note ... I am seeing pollen production on most of my vines now since we had the rain. I wonder if the acid in the rain is what my vines needed to kick-start reproduction? I tried everything else. I wonder if I fertilized them with some fertilizer that is for acid loving plants if that would make pollination odds better? Anyone try this idea yet?

Here are some of this mornings blooms...

This one is the Diluted Fuji no Muraski. I had two blooms today and this vine is pretty consistent with the blooms which is excellent!!!

Thanks, Colin! Here is the other bloom! This is really a stunning vine! The blooms just blow my mind! :-)

This one is a seed from Antoinette. It is Scarlett O'Hara. I do see some white at the base of the throat. Is this one a true SOH?

Another pretty striped bloom. Antoinette's Plum Tie-dye. (It was crossed with Chocolate Silk, but looks to be just PTD.) But ya just never know ... :-)

Hi Becky - This one looks like a rose blizzard
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6550193

This one here
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6550136
has nice basic coloration...although the best ones have a solid tube with the only white visible being from the pistil, stamens and the hairs extending off of the base of the filaments...

And ahhhh yes! My beautiful Pink Flaked I. purpurea vines ... Carnevale di Venezia! Is this not an incredible sight????!! Took my breath away this morning when I saw it!

I found this volunteer of the Purple Flaked I. purpurea today. :-) I wonder how this would turn out if I tried to cross it with the Pink Flaked? Hee,hee...

Ron - Perhaps I should change the name to Pink Porcelain Blizzard? ;-)

Thanks for confirming SOH for me. It is a really nice mostly solid color bloom. Not red like I was expecting. Does SOH have more of a dark pinkish color instead of a deep red? For some reason I was expecting it to be red...

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Last photo of the day. Not a MG, but something pretty anyway. This is Red Flare caladium. Each leaf is about 12" in length. More will be popping up soon. Quite a looker!

You go girl! LOL. Fabulous photos - enjoying seeing all your blooms Becky! Still waiting on mine, though I do have crocuses and daffodils up and tulips are ready to pop.

That Carnevale di Venezia belongs in a wedding ceremony - it's beautiful.

Becky - The color on the SOH varies but continued selection for solid colored tubes and a redder corolla will result in improved maintainence of SOH...

A nice one from an old strain
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/168715/

read the comments section on the main entry page by Terry and myself...
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/74/

The SOH stock should only be perpetuated by selecting the reddist blooms with the most solid throats and tubes...plants with less than solid tubes should (preferably) be culled or if traded > described as having less than a solid colored tube...

I'm fervently hoping that the marketing name (i.e.,Carnevale di Venezia) for a flaked purpurea mix does not become tantamount to any type of flaked purpurea...

You asked
"Ron - Perhaps I should change the name to Pink Porcelain Blizzard? ;-)"

I'd suggest asking Emma if that looks like Pink Porcelain to her...

Nice looking blooms Becky (!)...

TTY,...

Ron
