Hanging Tomato Plants

Minneapolis, MN(Zone 4a)

Hi
I have 2 tomato plants :Matt's Wild Cherry and Fourth of July. I would like to hang them from the deck as I have deer, rabbits and squirrels and little children.

I read that I can hang Matt's Wild Cherry Tomato plants upright in ten-inch pots successfully (http://www.seedsofchange.com/enewsletter/issue_47/hanging_baskets.aspx).

So the questions I have are:
1) Can I put the Matts Wild Cherry plant in a 1, 2 or 3 gallon bucket instead and let it hang upright as shown there?
2) What about the Fourth of July? Do I hang it upright in a 3 gallon bucket or should I hang it upside down?
3) Can I put romaine lettuce and basil in the same pot as the tomato?
4)Any advantages of hanging upright over upside -down?

Thanks

In hanging the bucket bigger is better I started small and had way better luck with 5 gallon buckets verses 15 inch pots. You will be way happier with a bigger pot promise.

Thanks! BUt should I hang them upright or upside-down? And can I put some other plants with each plant in the bucket? I have only 2 plants and plan to put them in 2 different buckets.

best up right
