I've done some reading and from what I can gather it seems the most important thing is to make sure you have your taller plants on the North side of the garden...but, that's not the help I'm looking for.
This will be my first garden. My garden is slightly sloped down from North to South. Off the top of my head I would say it slopes about 1 foot over about 20 feet. I had dirt in there last year and I didn't notice any soil runoff due to rain, so I think it should be fine...but then again, it wasn't tilled last year.
So for the purpose of keeping rain from running off too quickly and to help prevent any soil erosion that may occur due to rain, should I plant my rows East-West? It seems like the logical thing to do, but does anyone see a problem with this?
Garden Orientation Help
Check out square foot gardening. Perhaps you can mix some ideas on planting so you don't have to use the traditional row gardening. This may remove some of the problems with soil erosion.

Just a thought.
My yard is the low yard on our street. We get alot of run-off water from the yards next to us so I wanted to make sure nothing got washed away in our garden so I mixed some methods to produce what works for us.
Here's a link that shows what we've done. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/983993/
