Looks like some kind of tree. ????
Miles great pics on other thread.
Karen, thanks for id on the solomon's seal...I didn't realize he sent me those too. Thanks Thom!!!!
love that pink columbine Victor
Thanks. I'll have to look into autumn olive, Robin - thanks. It does smell like vanilla. Wonderful scent.
Nice pics everone.
wow the pics on the last thread blew me away
spring is so amazing how eveything turns green and grows so quickly to make us forget about the winter that just past
Miles, the patio is just lovely.
Victor, glad you got your ID. Your pics are making me want my columbine and viburnum to bloom so badly...lots of buds. question? Here's my ninebark 'Summer Wine'. Should I let it grow like this?or prune back the long branches? It's seems like such an odd growth habit. None of the original foliage had any new growth...it just started new branches (canes?) and they grew to this height last summer.
I have been pruning mine, Jan - after flowering. I don't like that leggy habit.
I planted 6 blueberry bushes last spring. they have all survived and are blooming. My total harvest last year was ONE berry. I don't expect to get much more this year. They are all half-highs. I planted all acid lovers at this end of the bed and mulch with pine needles. They are 2 each of 3 varieties that I don't remember at the moment
Hope you savored that one berry, Jan!
Love the free fennel!
Gram:
Lots of nice herbs I notice, I have all kinds of lavender, oregano, thyme, lemon verbena, basil I'm doing this year. I like to mix it all into the perennial beds.

I am thoroughly disgusted with this last pic. There was a &(*^$# starling hanging around and I should have known he was up to no good. I went out yesterday and there was poop all over my winter storage tent and my grill. Then I noticed some sticks and grass on the patio. I opened the grill and sure enough...
I cleared it all out, but I'll have to take out the grids and scrub them. I guess the fire will pretty well disinfect the rest if I let it burn awhile after I clean it all out and scrub it, but it still gives me the icks. they got in thru the holes at the sides where you attach a rotisserie. I should barbeque them and show them what it's for (snicker). We just used the grill a week ago. It's not like it's been abandoned.
Victor, I like the way the fennel planted itself in the chimney flue LOL. Last year I had about a bazillion plants I had to pull out in the rest of the garden. I never meant to let it all go to seed like that, but it got away from me when I wasn't looking (like everything else).
ps, I made one very, very tiny blueberry muffin (just kidding)
I've had about 6 other kinds of mint...some survive the winter and some don't. and I have creeping thymes growing in every garden around the house....love, love, love them. I think I have about 12 varieties. I've also had several oreganos, the common one, a golden, and 3 decorative ones, Kent Beauty, Showy Pink and Hopley's Purple. Not sure what's left. haven't really taken inventory yet this spring. but I think I need a better way to insulate the chimney flues in the winter. the chives do fine, but I lost the garlic chives.
My garlic chives like to try to take over the garden. Didn't know you could kill it!
Sherrie, we live on a manmade 'lake'...it's actually a flood control pond. I love it. We get a pretty good diversity of waterfowl. There are Canada geese and Mallard ducks that live here and raise their young. We have a resident blue heron that I think nests near a creek that runs into the lake. What's interested are the migrators. We've had quite a variety of other duck species passing thru. We don't have any kind of watercraft, but folks have kayaks, canoes and paddleboats. (no motorboats allowed). There are fish. I've always loved being by the water. It's small water, but water none-the-less. Here's a shot when we were building our cottage garden across the back of the lot.
Yes, all oregano is perennial, but it's not all hardy in my zone with the wind coming down off the lake all winter.
Gram, that container herb garden is very cool! I had mint in a pot planted in the ground. Last year it came back, but I think I finally killed it ;-) I'll have to get some more. They had Chocolate mint that intrigued me...we mostly use them for cocktails ;-) My SO like lemon balm, I pulled a huge patch out of the garden last year since it was invading everything, still pops up here and there...I'll probably pot that too...I might steal your design.
