DAILY PICS VOL. 214.

Anchorage, AK(Zone 4a)

Time for a new thread already. If you would like to go back, this is where we came from: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/985707/

A male Bufflehead. This bird and the female above were a mated pair, but they wouldn't get close enough together to capture both in one picture.

Thanks for the new thread Gras~that Eagle picture is fantastic!!

That is a great Eagle shot! The only ones I have are of birds about a mile high. :-)

I've lived in my current home just over a year, saw my first Bluejay in the yard yesterday. Unusual as they are common around here.

Yesterday's pic of an Indigo Bunting.

Gary great start...but shouldn't you have been in bed..lol!

Was on my way out to clean the finch feeder tray and refill and I got a couple shots before they flew off.

Here's a couple shots of the Black-throated Green Warbler. The pics are ok and could be better but between bad lighting, small birds and constant movement I glad I was able to get some decent pics of birds I've never seen before.

NO! You forgot about the time zone! It was only 10 PM local time.
Most of the rest of you have gone to bed by the time I usually sign on in the evening.

Wow, Gary, your eagle is so clear and sharp. Wonderful start to this new thread.

Meth, your Egret photos are beautiful and that Warbler is great!

Nanny, Red and Jec, more beauties for me to enjoy!

This is the first year I've finally photographed a Brown-headed Cowbird. He's here with a female so I'm hoping for clear photos in the future. Last year I did get pictures of a fledgling being raised by a Calif. Towhee, so I'm assuming that's what may again occur.

Meth, great shots of the warbler. I envy you in the parts of the country where lots of warblers pass through. Don't envy you the amount of insects there that keep them coming back though! The few varieties we have here are very elusive. Getting pics would probably require a much better camera than my digital.

Norman, OK

Nobody takin' any pics this afternoon? I especially liked that Snowy Egret. I need to get out and spend a day on water birds. I spotted a Painted Bunting twice today, but haven't been able to get a pic of him. Did get one of his mate.

wow! I'm in awe of all of your bird photos!! I'm hesitant to post, all we ever get are Robins, Grackles and Sparrows...and the occasional Mourning Dove.

This silly male Rose-breasted Grosbeak got into the caged feeder over the weekend. I was soooo worried....

I don't know what I would have done if he hadn't been able to get out on his own!

The RB Grossbeak is sooo soo cute, Nanny, and the E Kingsbird look pretty happy too.

Melbourne, FL

Very nice pics in this thread everyone. I have a question perhaps someone can answer. I don't think any of the Mockingbird babies have survived, I am not hearing them anymore and the parents are not hurrying to feed anyone. Why do some birds (Eagles for one) come out of the nest able to fly and some others fledge and fall to the ground. I read some babies spend a week or more on the ground. Not much chance of surviving that.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Guess they have to make a decision based on the risks of all staying together in a nest (if a predator finds the nest it would take all the chicks), compared to the risks of spreading out (a predator might find one chick more easily, but might not find all of the chicks so easily).

I guess either way life is a gamble for the birds of some species. It's very fortunate when one baby manages to survive. I enjoy spring much more when I don't have baby birds in and around my yard. I have not seen the baby Woodpecker for days. Either the parents chased it off or something happened to it.

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Good and very interesting photos.

Here is one I managed to get through the window yesterday. It is a Western Tanager, but I expect was just passing through. Beautiful bird and was enjoying the orange I put out for the Orioles, and they the Orioles had eaten all the grape jelly out of the twofree plastic measurers.

Rutholive, that's a really pretty Tanager. Love that tall birdhouse too!!

Nanny, love that Grosbeak and the dove looks pretty happy. Great photos.

Reddirt, that Mrs. WP is adorable.

This Crow is always bringing things I'd rather not mention to this birdbath.

Baltimore Oriole DH says vagaries of sunlight etc. can make it look yellow instead of orange

North Augusta, ON

That's what I was thinking...he was that yellow when I was just watching him too, even in the shade, which made me unsure.
