What is happening in your early summer garden?

Stanford, CA(Zone 9b)

Love that combo Sue. The colors are so vibrant.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Love your combo Sue. Thanks for the nice remarks, see photo, for additional progress. I know it will be worth it once it is done, but it is hard to have my daily routines all messed up. Not to mention the pile of debris, and no clear path ways. I need my path ways. Tired of slipping and falling.
Your epi is gorgeous. All I manage to do is to kill them, after my sister left them in my care. Don't know what I'm doing wrong with them.
quiltygirl, so happy that the Angel Trumpet cutting is doing well for you. So many of the the plants I was given at the mini RU have thrived and bloomed. I have some cuttings Rob gave me that I think I need to plant in the ground. They've been in water developing some roots.
Well, that is all I got for now.

SW love your arbor. DH is putting up a permanent place for my sun screen/shade cloth over my raised veggie bed. Right now the ends are tied to poles, but I'm busy painting lumber. I don't know just what he has in mind, but there is a lot of lumber. He has attached lumber to the brick fence in back and I painted some 4 x 4's which are ready to go up. I'm so anxious to have it put up so I'm out painting all the time. I'm not safe on a ladder any more, so try and get everything painted and just have to do some touch up later. Said when I'm ready to give up gardening he will put a permanent roof on it. I'm not planning on giving up gardening any time soon so he is going to have a very long wait.

Oh, yes, Pegi, we learned a long time ago to paint first. LOL We need a shade over ours, too, but it's down on the priority list right now. Post a picture when it's done so we can see your hard work!

Well, this was what was "happening" in my early summer garden yesterday afternoon.....

Smart kitties!

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

I don't have any new photos to post, but I have some good news for me! Any time I can go to a nursery and spend $500.00 is a good day. When I can do it with someone else's money it's a GREAT day! We just got back for a local nursery, Ganter's, and had 500 bucks to spend on "decorations" for our graduation here on my campus. My only restriction was things had to be showy for the graduation platform. Big restriction, huh? I even talked them into a couple of 15 gallon Wisteria trees. I've got a boatload of Larkspur out back that I'll 'decorate' the Wisteria with just to add some color to it for the ceremony. I'm in hog heaven right now.

Oh, what fun! Please post pix!!

Gosh, I probably passed you on the road, DP! What fun. Do post pictures.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9b)

lol ima, those poor kitties are all tuckered out, did you work them too hard?

Sounds like a blast DP! Hope you get to take some home!

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

SW, I brought those pretty yellow Iris to the RU. I am so glad they are blooming for you already this year. I thought they needed a year in the ground before they bloomed again. Mine are all starting to bloom again this week.

I really need to go out and take some pics of my plants, before they are all bloomed out.

Fallbrook, CA(Zone 10b)

Work is home for me Redtootsiepop. I live in a rental that I pay too much for as it is. I'm certainly not gonna give the guy a nice landscape for free to boot. I container garden there and put all my gardening efforts into my job. I'll have that job a lot longer than this rental house anyway.

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

DP, I agree wholeheartedly it is much better to spend someone elses money than your own! Whooee. Sounds like you are going to have some fun. Please do post photos.
Ima, looks like what my dogs were doing. The cats were too, but they know all the coolest places. LOL!
SoCal, thank you so much for the pretty yellow Iris. They really do bring sunshine to my day. I was so surprised that not only the purple Iris from Kanita bloomed, but that your gift did too! I will go take more photos. Mine are in mostly shade, and I was surprised that they bloomed later than the others, but they were transplanted late too. They truly bring me joy, and I really like them!
Always a good idea to paint first. We put poly panels up there in the winter to keep the rain off the firewood, but they are down for the painting, just took longer this year.
Samigal, you'll like the shade cloth it does help cool the area too.
Something I found in the garden yesterday. Not the best photo, but the color!

Ooooooh nice DP, I bet it was fun to spend someone else's money !

I think I got this campanula medium 2 years ago from Annie's. It didn't do a thing last year and I thought had died (I actually had to post it on the ID forum because I barely even remembered planting it) is just starting to bloom. I think it's going to be spectacular~~~!

Ima, that is so cool! I noticed you have a purple theme going on, including the lantana the Monarch is feeding from. All the flowers are beautiful, especially your flying flower! Such a great photo too!

thanks!! I was trying to get some hummer photos for the other thread, but the monarch was much more willing to pose....LOL!
I'm a sucker for blue, but I also have some gorgeous alstromerias in various shades of pink and orange and white starting to bloom among this tangle of plants:

Beautiful photos! Can't wait for the fullterbys to get here.

SW, we had an orange dragonfly in our pond, too! Really bright and lively. First one we've ever seen that color.

Gilroy (Sunset Z14), CA(Zone 9a)

The "bargain clusters" from this site are the best deal I've found on alstromerias, if you can live with whatever color shows up! I've bought them twice, and both times they've been huge and healthy.
