What is happening in your early summer garden?

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I just took this shot of it, it's planted next to the fence and reaches for the house, I have to continuously trim the branches so we can walk through & under it, hubby is 6'2" and gets irritated if he has to crouch (and the PG&E meter reader has to access that meter) It gets frosted back every year on the branches, the coldest was a few years back it got frosted to the ground but comes back no problems every year.

Wow, that packs a punch! It's beautiful, Sue.

Great photos Sue. Your clematis is gorgeous!

Thanks ladies, it's a new one for me planted on a trellis with my Autumn Sunset rose, which unfortunately just finished it's first flush. Those two need to get in sync!

I know what you mean Sue. The Niobe with the Iceberg rose, while they bloom 'sort of' together, the clematis is fading when the rose blooms. I've come to decide that it's nice that it extends the bloom time since there is color over a longer period. Might as well enjoy them if that's what they are determined to do! I have one where the clematis blooms after the rose too. Not that easy to get them blooming together.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Oh well, yes, I guess that's the best way to look at it, extending the bloom time. I actually have more buds on the rose but they'll probably open after the clematis blooms finish!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

My Red Hot Torch or Kniphofia plants are beginning to bloom. I'm so glad because the hummingbirds love them.

This is my orange and yellow.

This is going to be solid yellow, but it starts out as green.

And they have such a tropical feel too. Beautiful!

They are beautiful, never had much luck with growing them though, duc.
Not a great photo, but I love this cabbage sized rose.

The pomegranate is starting to bud out and flower.

My honeysuckle is taking over the fence out front. Smells so good. Maybe that's why I'm not seeing the hummers as much! LOL!

A close up of the honeysuckle flowers. They look like little maids all in a row.

The last of the Iris are blooming. These were ones I got from Kanita at the mini RU. Thanks again, Kanita.
This is also the last of the photos I have to share today.

I just have to get a pom! You've got lots of pretty things growing, Jules.

Good morning ladies (and gents)!

Sue, I love your Iochroma! I saw one for sale at the local nursery for $6 ( a little 1 gal) and now I think I have to run and get it!

This is just for kicks. I was doing my neighborhood's Garden Walk last weekend and I passed by this house (of course, not part of the walk!). These folks had this plastic, tire-smelling FAKE GRASS all over their fornt yard! I couldn't believe my eyes - not a SINGLE living thing on their entire lot! Talk about a plant hater!!! WHAT'S WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE??!! LOL!

Oh yuk, bet the inside it just as sterile and lifeless!

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

I have a seedling if you want it KC. I need to move it. I guess the wild birds have been sowing them around the yard. The one I planted is on the back side of the chicken pen. Now I have a couple out front , generally I let them grow where they want to, even if it makes for some weird looking companion plantings. The twee birds love them. Or I can give you a pomegranite. They grow fast. Fruit on old wood, and look cool when you make fall decorations that incorporate them. My volunteers don't get much attention and not much water either.
LMK.
rob, maybe they don't want the expense of landscaping, or don't have time for it. Maybe they have horrible allergies. That would be awful.
I couldn't handle it, myself. I live near Sun City. It's a retirement community and many of the seniors have gravel covered yards. No maintainance. I greatly admire one senior who has all of her plants in containers. They sit on the gravel. She doesn't have to weed or bend far, she has a good walking surface. Her place looks like an organized jungle. I have never spoken to the people that live there, but I'm going to have to get a photo, at least.

I would love a pomegranate, SW!

Allergies was my first guess; I could never have grass for that reason. But the thing to do in that case is have a different landscape. The stuff isn't cheap, either. Who knows why people do things? People think we're nuts for having native plants instead of the usual, too.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9b)

ha ha ha - Rob, I've seen that fake grass before.. a few houses in our neighborhood in Tualatin had it installed - it's "too" green.

What a tragedy - that's a pretty house, could be so much better.

I really need to keep notes. At the mini RU someone brought some small sized yellow iris. Today, I was so surprised to see these. The purple Monet are continuing to surprise me and are still blooming too. So to who ever you are, Thank You for brightening my day with these yellow beauties.

I had traded for some seeds and my planting schedule got sort of messed up when Mom broke her ankle, and the troubles Spirit has had. So I was surprised to see this in one of the containers. Mind you it is only one plant, but still . . .

ACK! I need to get the chainsaw out. Those trees aren't supposed to be growing on the outside of the fence to the right of the photo.

Painting the Porch, at end of day yesterday. Lost one Wisteria, but will be able to bring it back from offshoots at the base of the plant. Sigh.
That's it for now.

Rob- the angel trumpet cutting you gave me at mini ruiz is only just planted in dirt with tons of water roots sand new leaves. Then I thought I killed it in the sun but next day dead leaves dropped and new ones came in. Whee. It's in shade now with our 98 degree days.

I want some of that fake grass since it takes too much water & we have so much dirt to cover an no one to take care I it except the rabits and goats.
