first time poppy grower,please help!!

Hey,this is my first attempt of trying to grow poppy from seed.I live in Calgary,Canada.I've sown the seeds on 4th May 09.I don't know ,if at all it will germinate.
Plz,guide me.

I'd say they take about a week or two. I too am trying to direct sow more poppies (can't get enough!) but I'm starting to think it's gotten too warm for them to germinate now. So that's 3 of us holding our breath!

yeah...i'm also keeping my fingers crossed!!Hopefully it will germinate.I water the seeds daily and look at it very closely.
How much time do you guys think would it take normally to germinate?
I've sown the" Daisy shasta" seeds too.Again, i'm not sure if these will flower this year or next.....
any idea?

Shasta Daisies are perennial, so you won't see blooms until next year. As for the poppies, it depends on what type you have. California, corn poppies, and somniferum (breadseed poppies) are annuals, so they'd bloom this year. Oriental and iceland poppies are perennials.

It's funny, but because those are the types they make opium from, in some states it's illegal to grow them. You can posess the seeds but not the plants. T&M won't even sell them to the U.S. Not sure about Canada. I don't even know for sure about Wisconsin, I just hope my neighbors don't tattle... ^_^

Here u do get it at all stores but should not be grown in large numbers.I guess ,since the seeds are sold in stores such as 'HOMEDEPOT",so it is permissible here.The seeds were whitish..yeast like.

Oh boy, what haven't I planted in my garden...! I'll try pretty much anything that's hardy, and some that aren't, but poppies are my favs.
