garden pics: you MAY see this in MAY....#4

(Sharon)SouthPrairie, WA(Zone 7a)

I knew the red JM was for real. Perhaps I wasn't clear that you had made that perfectly clear in your post.

Thanks for the thoughts on photography. There are many frustrations in sharing the real beauty with the camera's eye. My particular one is getting purple to show up true. I don't have expensive equipment, just a good digital, but things like my Jackmani clematis just never turn out to my satisfaction!

We have figured out that subdued light is best, but smetimes wish we could share the glowing beauty that comes out in the sunshine.

Poulsbo, WA

Good point. I guess I will have to go back to Vancouver and find it at different times of year. No, I can't do that because I would be toooooo tempted to sneak a little branch into a pot. :)

The creation date for the photo was May 4. My shindeshojo eventually turns muted green, but it takes a while.

Hi Sharon, I was agreeing with you! I knew it would be hard to believe so made that comment. I knew what you meant, I was trying to affirm it, but alas words are so hard without the inflections of the voice. :) That is why God made smiley faces. :)

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Redchic, What a beautiful spot to grow up in, and how wonderful to still be able to share it with your nephew! I was ROFLMAO again remembering the sled conversation! You are right, that would be a tricky one to navigate!

Sally, Enjoy your freedom and don't work to hard! My DH finally came home, and love him to death, but you just can't get the same amount of stuff done with them underfoot, can you? And my heaven of toasted sandwiches or salad for dinner is gone too... Can I live vicariously through you for the next week? Have fun at the sale!

Neo, Love the blue maple! Just think what a wonderful mailorder business you could have if you didn't mind taking advantage of people! Joking as you are having fun with it, and I am very much admiring your pics, but they remind me of some of the "cheesy" garden catalogues I have gotten in the past! If it looks too good to be true.... Beautiful pink tree BTW!

Poulsbo, WA

Some cameras have a slight pixel shift in color, usually adding a bit more red to the reds and purples. I have found that an overcast day when the sun is straight up is the best time. Even when it is cloudy the sun is behind the clouds and influencing the light that filters through. So an overcast day in the evening will put more red into the purples. Try slowing the shutter speed. I have found that leaving it open longer at ASA 100 allows the shorter blue wave lengths to make it in.

Generally to get an accurate color, it requires photoshop to restore to the image what you saw with your eyes, an illusive color. Then when you try to print it, everything changes again! sigh. I agree that getting the purples and blues to photograph is very difficult. They always seem washed out in comparison to the real thing.

Rarejem, you are right, that is my point exactly. I get so frustrated with garden catalogues and websites that deceitfully enhance their photos. The true color of the flower ends up being so different, and very disappointing. I would like to start a new department of the law, the CIA, the color intensity authority.

It's like snake oil in ages past, and it is truly false advertising. ok, end of rant. :)

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Neo.... I agree completely about those catalogs and websites that do that. It really peaves me. If I happen to be speaking with someone at the company that has done such things... I readily let them know!!
I have a tree in mind that might be your tree. I'm going to have to go find it today and take a picture of it. But, I really do think it's a tree that's going through a color change. still pretty though.

RJ.... I'm glad that I could make you smile! The people who live there now are very nice and seemed to really understand that we wanted to do when wandering there.... which was just wander! They agreed and thought that the sleds were a great idea!

Eugene, OR

Neo.....I see why you want that pink, it is lovely. And the blue made me laugh. I haven't mastered photoshop enough to be able to do that. Just haven't taken the time.

Went to the sale, had a wonderful time. DH called while I was there and again when he got to his brothers. I found some great treasures, I'll take pics tomorrow. Found some things to make up a hanging color pot for mom. And some miniatures to use in my gnome garden. But rc.....I needed you. Some of the volunteers didn't know much about the plants. They just had names, no culture information. I had thought about taking a garden book but my best ones are too big. Lots of different things and the prices were good. Had to borrow a wagon to take things to the car. tee hee hee DH told me to have fun!! And there's another sale in June, I'll send the info dmail.

Julie....I don't cook the whole time he's gone. I've got bits of this or that and salad fixings, that's all I need. Had a late lunch today and ended up with strawberries and pound cake for dinner. LOL And yes you can join me this week.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Sally, I'm so happy for you that you went and had a good time! I really look forward to seeing some of the treasures! how exciting! I would love to know about the sale in June!! I wish I could've been there to help with cultural stuff. But, I'm sure that I would've been in plant lovers never never land and would've been hard to get information out of. It probably would've come out sounding like drunken babble as i was walking from plant to plant thinking..... I've only I could take you, and you, and you, and you......
However, I'm sure that you knew much more about the plants than you're giving yourself credit for. There needs to be some sort of back pack design specifically for holding and displaying A to Z !!!! lol

Eugene, OR

And you have to be able to read it with your hands full. I did know more than I thought I would about some things and I had my wish list. DG is rubbing off on me. LOL And yes you would have found lots to look at. I'm having trouble figuring out how I can put the flyer in a Dmail. If I can't I'll just type it out.

Here's a fun one. And no it's not photoshop.

Nothing wrong with a little DG rubbing off on anyone!

Very pretty Dogwoods!

Eugene, OR

It's only one. LOL A very confused one.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Those are the kind that I like the best! The tree never wanted to be grafted and is trying to get back to it's natural 'root' color!!

Eugene, OR

That's what I figured. It was all pink. Now it's almost half and half. Somebody said I should take it out and get another, but there's nothing wrong with it and it's unique!! I've always been partial to weird.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I agree completely. It's pretty that way!

Eugene, OR

Took this picture of Mt Pisgah the other day. Looked like it was getting wet up there.

And this out the other direction. I love clouds, but they never look as good in pictures.

very ominous looking! Pretty picture though!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Well, to me those cloud pictures seem to create a pretty good view of what was going on.

Eugene, OR

It's a good view, but the depth isn't there. Need 3D!! Getting tired, had to get DH off early this morning. See you tomorrow. Hope you have a good night.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Thanks. I'll do the best that I can. You have a good one as well!

Eugene, OR

Almost forgot. I took a picture of my hosta bed today. It's coming along nicely. Managing to keep the slugs and snails at bay. ha ha ha

that looks really nice Sally! The little statues are cute!

(Lynn) Paris, TX(Zone 7b)

No flower pictures here today - 4" in the last 18 hours, and more to come. At least we're getting a few breaks in between thunderstorms so the creek hasn't gotten up to my flowerbeds yet. Keeping my fingers crossed. Took the picture from the back porch, so it's very grainy

Happy Mother's Day to all you ladies out there! Whether you children are human or furry or both, raising and caring for them is no small feat! Take time out from your busy day to give yourself a pat on the back...be proud of yourself for the results of your love an nurturing...you deserve it!

Sally, Awesome dogwood! The sky pics are great too. I know what you mean about not getting the true depth that you see in the clouds...I love the sky on the east side of our state as it is always full of "drama". I have tried many times to take pictures of the different colors and layers, and haven't been totally pleased with any of them. Sounds like you had a great time at the plant sale, info or not. Good for you. And yes, the VERY VERY best part of DH being gone is that you don't have to cook! I think strawberries and pound cake sounds like a splendid dinner! Enjoy your week!

Irwells, That's a dark dreary day! Hopefully the rains let up for you soon, and I will cross my fingers for no flooding for you! I have dealt with enough yard/garden flooding this year to last me a lifetime, and I am one of the lucky ones in our area!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the lovely flowers RJ!! and the Sentiments!

OMG Irwells.... I sure hope that supbsides soon! 4" of rain would cause a flash flood here! How often does the creek make it up to the flower beds? That doesn't sound good at all.

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

Took full advantage of a sunny day to try to get some stuff done in the yard for a change. Was so tired by 5:00 that Mom and I decided to enjoy a long garden walk between both yards. The light was so poor (too bright/too dark) at that time of the day that the picture taking wasn't all that. This will give you a quick idea of the world surrounding our gardens.

This is Lexy leading the way to Mom's house for our walk last night.

This is from the same spot looking back towards my digs. You can't see the houses from each other due to the bends in the road and the forest, but we are only a block or so apart.

My darmea is beautiful right now, even though half of it is under water. The pond is still way over full!

Oops, realized that I was a little off topic with the yard pics...that would fall under "You may see this in August". Hopefully quite a few of you will be able to make it to our breakfast at the Roundup!

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

rj..your property is beautiful.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

RJ....I doubt that anybody would've noticed. Besides..... One could take the title to mean something like: "things that you may see in may.... on your computer". So, it still fits! lol

However, I love your drive. I would walk it every day!

Redchic, Love the dogwood pics, especially the last one. Another photo contest entry for sure!

Thanks to you both for the comments on my driveway...we absolutely love it ourselves, and I do walk it almost every day. It is a joy to be so close, and one of our favorite pasttimes when we are too tired to do anything else is just walking and enjoying together.

(Julie)South Prairie, WA(Zone 7a)

One more pic from last night. Have loved to see the pics of the beautiful gardens that people have planted with contrasts in texture and color. We were admiring that Mother Nature does a lot of that type of gardening as well. This is a natural section of the driveway with huckleberry and cedar.

Irwells….that looks scary, I’ll cross my fingers too…no flooding!

Thank You RJ….heard from both human and furrys today! Beautiful flowers. And what a lovely place to take a walk. Now I’m going to play with my new plants.

rc…beautiful pics as always and I agree with Julie about the last one. The sun rays are as awesome as the dogwood.
