Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #103 visit with friends!

Baton Rouge, LA

Betty - I love your energy! I wish I had some! I am so mad at myself that I'm letting my herb go to waste because I just haven't had time to freeze anything....

This weekend is DD's Sweet 16 and Mothers Day - I just won't have a minute to put up some parsley, oregano, basil....

Here is a Daylily for you!

Night Night!

Nice picture of a DL, Mary, looks like the one I painted some time ago.
Like the sweet potato vine (?) beside it, nice contrast.

My daylilies have some buds, but no blooms yet. I do love daylilies.

If I don't get to tell you, hope your weekend is great, birthday parties and all.

Give me a minute and I'll show you what we've been up to
We planted 60 'Kennebec's & 30 Red Pontiac's in first bed."On The Right"
This bed is made up of a duke mixture..First layer 2" grass fresh cut
"3 days old" Second layer 5" of mulched leaves..Third layer 2" of old straw
Now the potatoes..Forth layer 5" of old straw.. I found it very hard to get the leaves in second layer wet...I'm thinking that time will get them wet..
The ground is wet below & the straw is wet above it..We'll see if this experiment is any good..LOL Shirley says I'm Crazy..But she knew that before she said I DO..LOL

Wow Sharran! You painted my Daylily! Even before it bloomed! And yes - that is the Potato vine.....DH thinks it's evil...he calls it "Seymore". (After Little Shop of Horrors).....

But I'm keeping Seymore at bay....I am clipping it where it grows uninvited every day....

It is growing up in 3 places in the slats in that "dock" or "Deck"....

Tubby - I'm thinkin' POTATO SALAD!

Let's see if I have the other daylily...

Still want to know what was waiting for Betty when she got home??
Everyone have a good night.....

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

The left bed is easier ..Tilled as in first bed..Layed seed potatoes on top of the ground..Covered with a mix of mulched straw and leaves..Also Kennebecs from our garden last year..And the rest of the Red Pontiacs Total # of seed potatoes planted 150..If we have any sucess at all, we will have to learn how to store these babies correctly..LOL

Hello All -

Tubby - One would need a lot of room to grow potatoes, right?

Trisha & Sharran...Yes it is a mystery the "secret" package by the door.....!

Can't really see this pic of my Portulacas....Hope it is a good one...

Hugs to all,
Mary

Mary each bed is 4' by 21'..First bed "on right" might be a little crowded..Three rows 1' apart..Seedlings are 8" apart in each row.....I'm hopeing that they will be okay in the straw..Should make it easy for them to grow around each other..They will just have push each other out of the way And like it...LOL

Happy & Sad

A husband and wife were sitting watching TV when he turned to his wife and said,

'Honey, tell me something that will make me happy and sad all at the same time.'

She said, "You are the best kisser of all your friends."

Only thing I can say 'Tubby' is wow, now that took a lot of building and planning and I'm sure your crop will be spectacular..you save a bit of time though on not needing to work soil as in a regular garden right? you do have a lot of energy..loved the photo's...when you you expect to be eating veggies from it?

Mary, love the brilliant color of your daylilly..sounds as though you'll not have a minute to spare this weekend...think it will be the same for all of us...how's the birthday party planning going? Did you and DH agree with all she planned lol

Shar, that's probably my most favorite painting of yours..think Mary planted a daylilly to match your painting right? sweet...

Trisha, love cream peas, also included in cream salmon sauce...one of the first things I was able to make well..finally Roger said if he had cream salmon/pea sauce over mashed potatoes one more time he'd go bonkers..

Hard to capture a photo of Caleb now that I framed it last night but here goes...

How's your morning going..

I'll try this photo and see if it's clearer...

Wanted to plant the bugbane and silver lace vine but they are calling for frost..imagine...so best I take them inside for a few more days..
Must run..only work till 3 today and home I come..might get some gardening in and cut front lawn..

Always something to occupy oneself...

Thanks Shar...omg was reading the novel again, how addictive...

Just checked the weather, where it was 40% rain we're now 100% rain for tomorrow..guess who won't get her to do's done..

drats...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good news, Paul just called and said for us to close up shop early...1:00 so happy days are here...

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

WOOHOO-maybe you can enjoy some outside time today since tomorrow you'll have rain;)

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes Stacey, cut the back lawn on Tuesday night, now the front and back needs to be done again..

Just kidding with my girlfriend June who called, she borrowed my membership card for Fabricland..members get 50% off everything in the store...I asked her to check for sunbrella fabric so I could put it on the seat of the metal bench I bought at the church garage sale last Sat..... paid $2.00 for the bench and she paid after the 50% off $11.97 for the material..waterproof..oh well it will look pretty..she said it's bright colors..more for the seat than the entire piece..won't take but a few minutes to do, I'll use my air stappler...

Hey Judy and all who may have an interest...was in the pharmacy picking up mom's 'farie for mother's day and looked through a few gardening books...I'm almost tempted to make this project...

a bench maybe 4 to 6' long (same as the one I made for the kitties to look out the window), bottom of a storage bin...or could be a pail or any container that would hold water...drill a hole in the lid...if no lid then you'd have to put some screen/mesh ontop so you could place rocks on it once you've dug and set it in the ground to which you have put a little pump with rubber hose...

They had a metal watering can secured to the bench which the spray part of the watering can is facing downwards so that when the water falls it falls into the rocks and back into container...just keep circulating..then on the bench they had a few flower pots, gardening tools etc. the bench was in front of a shrub...real nice setting..should really go ack and buy the book..could set once up in garden area at the bottom of the deck..just what I need another water feature...lol..

Know I haven't explained it well, but too cute for words and almost everything one would have at home..just maybe not the little water pump..think they are about $20. at Walmart in the pond accessories..

Your gardens are looking mighty Pretty Betty, soon you'll have beautiful blooms. Was real glad you got your Lilac bushes.

Yesterday was my sister birthday! and Sunday is my other sister's Birthday, she will be 50!

well, better get back to my weeding.
enjoy the day.

Victoria Harbour, ON

There musn't be a week left in your garden Judy...finish yours then come help me with the dandelions..should go find grandma's recipe for dandelion wine..remember sipping some when I was just a little girl...

Velcro shirt, now there would be a handy thing to have...

Sure was nice getting off at one, already I've re-upholstered the seat of that little bench..cut my grass, raked where the snowplow pushed the soil onto the grass creating mounds..

Yes I know, that was a job for the boys but it's driving me crazy and if it rains all day, it will still be there next week, this way, I just might run to town tonight and pick up some seed, seed it and with rain and sunshine I should have grass within a few weeks..

Opps someone's here...

A teacher was doing a study testing the senses (taste)

The children began to identify the flavors by their color:

Red.....................Cherry
Yellow................Lemon
Green..................Lime
Orange...............Orange

Finally the teacher gave them all HONEY lifesavers. None
of the children could identify the taste.

The teacher said, 'I will give you all a clue.. It's what your
mother may sometimes call your father.'

One little girl looked up in horror, spit her lifesaver out and
yelled, 'Oh my God! They're butt-holes!

The teacher had to leave the room!

Why Parents Drink

A Mother passing by her son's bedroom
was astonished to see that his bed was nicely made and everything was
picked up.

Then she saw an envelope, propped up
prominently on the pillow that was addressed to 'Mom' With the worst
premonition she opened the envelope with trembling hands and read the
letter.

Dear Mom:

It is with great regret and sorrow
that I'm writing you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend because I
wanted to avoid a scene with Dad and you. I have been finding real
passion with Stacy and she is so nice. But I knew you would not
approve of her because of all her piercings, tattoos, tight
motorcycle clothes and the fact that she is much older than I am. But
it's not only the passion... Mom she's pregnant. Stacy said that we
will be very happy. She owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack
of firewood for the whole winter. We share a dream of having many
more children.

Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact
that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone. We'll be growing it for
ourselves and trading it with the other people that live nearby for
cocaine and ecstasy. In the meantime we will pray that science will
find a cure for AIDS so Stacy can get better. She deserves it. Don't
worry Mom. I'm 15 and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I'm
sure that we will be back to visit so that you can get to know your
grandchildren.

Love,
Your Son Paul

P.S. Mom, none of the above is true.
I'm over at Dustin's house. I just wanted to remind you that there
are worse things in life than the report card that's in my center
desk drawer.

I love you.
Call me when it's safe to come home.

Night Trisha!

Tubby - You hittin' the Bourbon tonight? The Lifesaver Post was wild!

Hugs to all -
Mary

PS: Hey Betty - Well DH is trying to appease the 16 year old bday plans....I am just hanging on for dear life.

We'll see how it goes.....She has a list of activities and plans that are laughable....DH says Karaoke is OUT.....we'll see what happens....she has been very resourceful on the rest of the list....

Morning, sky is as black as can be, Sailor doesn't know what to do with herself, she knows from the rumbling that the storm is not far off..glad I got most of the outside work done ..

Greg dropped in last night to see what was on the schedule and what time Jeff would be arriving and brought me the surround for the trampoline..much of the foam deteriorated but can be fixed..he priced a new one and it was $249.00 ..the boys were sure grandma could 'fix' so, here it is in the craft room and I'm checking things out..can't go outside anyway...on the opposite table I have the window frame to redo the glass hanging..won't be bored even if I cannot play outside..

Was funny, bet there were at least 7 lawn mowers going at the same time last night..everyone anxious to make their places pretty..usually takes the next door neighbors a little longer to get motivated but no the boys were outside helping mom clean up and mow..they never help out so I should have know something was up..

About 8:00 kids were arriving for a party outside, chairs all around the fire..have to say I enjoy seeing young people enjoying themselves...I DID SEE though that many were bringing coolers...most were of age but some not..about 12:30 it got quite rowdy and where, yep right on the side of my bedroom window..so awake I was...by 1:30 all h..l broke out..guess one of the girlfriends had slept with another and he was slapping her around calling her names...enough was enough..I put my shoes on, went over and rang the bell until the mother came...told her I was about to call the police but wanted to give her the opportunity of closing down the party..told her I'd not lay in bed listening while violence was happening...took her about 20 minutes to get everyone GONE!!!! I would never have done that other that him hitting the young lady, then a few guys were trying to stop him and you just never know where that will lead..

Now it was 2:30, tossed/turned and had a dream that I was in the living room and 3 young men came to the door, I pretended I was sleeping but had forgotten to lock the door and they walked in...now guess who was getting the beating...was horrific so when I woke up, no more getting back to sleep...I'll need a nap today for sure...

So Mary, be blessed that your DD will in no way have such a party! Enjoy.....

Cute Tubby, of course you got me smilling again...

Judy don't tell me you lost your phone as well...shaking my head here..think your mind is somewhere else, could it be a trip?

Bev, got all the seeds out that you sent me, organizing where they will go..moved my topsy turvy planted out of the front garden by about 2' so now I'll enlarge that garden as well as the back garden out near the frame, will pick up soil and plant some seeds tomorrow if it's nice out...

Liz, more fires in California, hope none of our DG friends will be affected...going to purchase the magazine on Monday Liz and will post photo..looked around the yard yesterday to see where I could put one...

I put all the yard art and emellishments out and was looking at the yard, of course they stand right out because there are no flowers to help hide them..I have to wonder at what point a pretty garden becomes 'tacky'????

Have to tell you, about 5 years ago I did the grandchildren in oils, although they looked very much like themselves, the boys enjoy teasing and Jeff said 'who do you know mom that is chinese?' and 'why are you painting them'..so gave up on portraits...

Now I'm trying again .. last night when Greg was here the picture was sitting against the wall, saw him look, said 'my girlfriend Debbie asked me to sketch her son' to which Greg said, 'I don't know mom, your friends child looks as though he's Caleb's twin'...ahhh..guess I did better after all..lol

Well, going to go and do some glass..talk later..
Hoping you enjoy your day...

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Morning all,

Betty, you did a marvelous job on Caleb's portrait. I'm sure Jeff will love it! What a treasure to have.

I went to a digital camera class the other night at the Older Adults Assoc. Just a two hour talk given about the settings and what they do.

This is a Macro of my tulips.
